losinpounds 0 Posted September 1, 2010 I had my second fill 2 weeks ago. Im hungry and eating more than I should. I called the doctor office and the nurse told me that this was normal that the swelling has went down and that I wont feel restriction till my 3rd or 4th fill. I felt restriction for a couple of weeks with my first fill so I am lost. Luckly I havent gained any weight but I am not losing any either so I am very discouraged about that. I picked up my walking to a mile a day 5 days a week and I wasnt doing that prior to my 2nd fill due I was having issues with my back. I was banded on June 4th and have lost 29 lbs. I expected more by now but I know everyone is different. Just concerened since I havent lost any weight in about a month.
peprmentpati 8 Posted September 2, 2010 hello! I got my second fill 3 weeks ago. I am now at 6.4cc in a 10cc band. I was super restricted the first week after my fill, like I could hardly eat a 1/2 cup of food. The 2nd week following the fill I was sooo hungry and having lots offhought about food and eating. It felt like it was more loose than before I got the fill. Now this week I'm super tight again and having PB'ing episodes. I suspect there is some internal changes going on (sweeling, weight loss, etc...) The band is a whole new experience for all of us and we learn new things often. I was banded with my friend in Mexico. She's lost 42 lbs abd I've lost 90. I'm taller and weigh more than her. But she's doing excellent for her size, height and etc. Our bodies do what they have to do during changes and stress and that sometimes meaning holding on to weight until it figures things out. I'm going to rely more on whatever will power and knowlege I've gained from my medical team and other successful bandsters. I love the idea of getting lots of fills for restriction but I don't want to use that as a crutch, if that makes sense. I guess I just want to work as a team with my band not completly rely on it to "save" me. It will get better for all of us! Good Luck! Rebecca
BetsyB 9 Posted September 2, 2010 Completely normal. That said, you can lose weight during this period, if you make food choices that promote weight loss. (You can eat; you don't have to.) I think it's such a shame that so many patients don't have preop education that provides information about the period between banding and achieving restriction--so many are surprised by this, and it's just not right. If you know, ahead of time, that there is going to be a period--perhaps of several months--when restriction is not optimal, you will be hungry, and in order to lose you must diet, then there isn't the same level of frustration. You just think, "Oh,well---this is the time they told me about; I'll stick to the eating plan so I can lose while I wait to hit restriction."
losinpounds 0 Posted September 2, 2010 (edited) Thank you both. I was told about the restriction I guess I didnt understand and was surprised. After the first fill I felt restriction for about a month I went two weeks with out. I received my 2nd fill and only felt restrictions for a day or so but now I eat more than I have without realizing it till to late. I am working on it now since I see what I am doing. I guess the thought that I would be hungrier after the 2nd fill never crossed my mind. I have been reading on the board and understand a little more than what I did. I also think until you have it done and go thru it most of it you dont comprehend (or I didnt anyways) I am so glad I did it just want the scales to show more. Just have been discouraged since I havent lost any in about a month now and I can still wear all my clothes and they are not falling off are even baggy so it makes it hard. I see the scales showing the loss but I dont see it on me. Edited September 2, 2010 by losinpounds
Manda87 3 Posted September 3, 2010 For some odd reason, I felt like my second fill did nothing. By the third fill, I did better. It will get better though. You just have to make good food choices.
jpeace 0 Posted September 3, 2010 Help! It's been 3 month's since I got banded and I have only lost 28 pounds which I'm thrilled about, but I lost 10 of those pounds prior to surgery. I have had 3 fills and I don't know if I have felt restriction or not. I have had episodes of throwing up a week after my 3rd fill. I guess I'm kind of lost. I don't know when to get fill's. I feel like I can eat too much but at the same time I can throw up sometimes after a little amount of food. Just frustrated.
