Getting my arms done would love to hear from people who have had theirs done!

I had thyroid surgery 10 years ago, and my surgeon gave me wonderful advice. He said I should apply a thin layer of sunscreen over the scar (once it's healed, of course) for 2 years. If you tan or burn that area, you will have a permanent brown or red line. My sister, who also had the same surgery 5 years before me, was not given that info and he scar is still a little pink. You can't even see mine!! Thought this might be useful information for anyone having surgery. Blessings!

Would love to see where your read machine was better unless its the product advertisement for the staple gun...ever see a machine used on a face? Of course not. AND the photo, where the scar looks perfect is the one person who doesn't scar...would need to see 100 or 1000 cases to see the truth...just sayin"!

I read that it leaves a neater scar. (Cant remember where as I've been on lots of pages from a google search of the name of the item) I'm not gonna argue over it - It's up to the Doc I guess. I read that a normally sewn Doc can get problems - Every single way can have problems. That is the nature of plastics.

I guess if you wouldn't want that item used on you - You would tell your PS. Every surgeon is gonna do things slightly differet I guess, that is the nature of being human. Thus far - I am very happy with my results (I guess If I remember I could ask him when I see him what he did my wound closings with)

:-)

I saw my PS about an hour ago - Apparently he did NOT use that machine - He did all the sewing by Hand......

I guess him being a microsurgeon also mighta helped - Who knows - I am doing well though :-) Thats cool.... Everything healing nicely..

Xavier, I think what you are talking about is subcuticular sutures. These are totally under the skin and it pulls the top layer together enough that glue can be used on the very top layer. That way you dont see any suture/ staple marks. I am not sure if thats strong enough to cope with the use arms get. By the way, I had staples with both of my c-sections, the scars look very like that picture. Other scars, hand sewn, but not subcuticular sutures, don't look anything like that good.

I am interested in this surgery and would appreciate LOTS of pictures. What is your pain level and mobility like? Where are your scars and how long are they? Were you given options for the type and lenght of the scars? I would really appreciate any information you can pass on.

Hi when I get home tonight I will take some new pics and see if I can post them.

It hurt lol still does and it will be 4 weeks this thrusday. I still can't lift anything and have a lot of swelling still. My scars are long but the dr told me he would go as far as he had to not to leave a bump or bubble of tissue. Which was fine with me. My left scar goes futher then my right. They start under my arm and go past my elbow. But I had VERY large "bat wings" yours may not be as bad. The placement of my scar is AMAZING! I have seen many pictures but have never seen anyones placed like mine. When I hold my arms up like a goal post you can not see them. The are on the back of the insdie of my arm. I have to lift my arms up straight to be able to see them. I am very happy with the placment! As for the look of them I don't know yet, they said it will tkae 3-6 months before I will see the final look. They look 100% better but still a little fuller then I would have liked, but again I have to wait at least 2 more months. He also used inside stitches and glue so I don't have a "train track" scar.

I will do my best to post some pics for you.

Oh as for pain I did stay home for a full week because of the drains I had. percocet did the trick. Just a lot of burning and discomfort. My left arm still has a lot of numbness which I am a little worried about. But the Dr said it's normal...we shall see in time.

Good Luck!

Your arms look fantastic! I think my new arms are going to be only slightly better then your old arms...maybe. They are no where near as tight as yours. Mine did start out a LOT bigger though so I guess that has something to do with it...

did you have any numbness in either of your arms and any tightness? My left arm is giving me some problems but its only been 4 weeks so I am hoping they will al work themselves out.

Nope - No numbness and no tightness now - But - while the scar is still new - the scar can feel a bit like a bit of tight string along it - But I am now at 7mths and everything is fine - The scar is placed well and to show it in pics I hafta kinda rotate my arm so the Camera can even see the scar - LOL - It is along the back or my arm but you cannot see it if you are standing behind me unless my arm is slightly rotated...

Well thats good to hear! I can only hope my arms look as good as yours when all is said and done. I will post pics tonight when I get home from my camera. I am going to work at stretching the left arm a bit to see if that helps. I just hope this numbness goes away!

Thanks again!

Ann, I am so happy for your surgical outcome....it looks to be a very good job. I had mine done in January and am having a series of laser treatments to fine tune the scars. I think within another year my scars will be minimally noticable but I am most happy my batwings are gone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
