What protein shake did you like the best?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I saw the dietician and the exercise coach today and she suggested that I purchase some sample's of the Protein Shakes to see which one I like the best. So I was just wanting to know which one's did you all find to be tasty or maybe I should say tolerable.

kckaye: if you call Syntrax and let them know you are a bariatric patient they will send you a varity pack of 10 for $13. That way you can try it, I went to The Vitamin Shoppe and the 3lbs tub was for $36.00 I was told that Syntrax and Isopure are one of the best. Their phone number is 1-866-333-7403 ext. 803. I just ordered today. Good Luck....

I like the powder that is called Pure Protein. I have tried a few and that is my favorite. I mix it with skim milk and hit it with the hand blender. It has been my favorite so far.

From Vitamin Shoppe I like Gold Standard Double chocolate whey isolate. Depending on your doctors requirements you can consider some add ons. I use suger/fat free instant pudding mix's, Davinci suger free syrups (traditionaly used in coffee) and Spendra. A new favorite of mine is PB2 which is Peanut Butter powder where the peanut oil has been mostly removed and then the peanuts ground into a powder. They have both plain and chocolate flavor. I add that to my chocolate shakes and love it (significantly less fat and calories than peanut butter). Also I use a personal blender to mix the shake. I freeze fat free milk and flavored suger free Water in ice cube trays and use those to give the shake a thicker texture.

I use the Syntrax nectar...it has 0 fat and 0 carbs...it has 23g protein(remembering off the top of my head) and comes in great flavors. I use the vanilla bean, fuzzy naval and the strawberry kiwi. I buy the big tub from the Vitamin Shoppe. They have a return policy, if you try it and don't like it you can bring it back, no questions asked. Good luck!:)

I am with Momof5 I love the nectar Protien ! The Carribean Cooler to me is the BOMB ! Fuzzy Navel is great too ! At LapBand support group I go to everyone pitches in and we buy in bulk then share the flavors it is great ! Try alot of them to find what works for you. Because that is the one you will stick with watch your carbs and fat grams and remember just cause it says it has 52 grams of protien the body can only process so many at a time. Good luck and thanks for the question. Chuck

I LOVE Syntrax nectar Protein. They have sooo many different flavor choices. I have had the strawberry which taste like strawberry milk and the french vanilla taste like a milk shake. You can find them at Vitamin Shoppe and its about $35 for a huge tub of powder. 24 grams of Protein per scoop. (I mix 2 scoops with 20 oz of skim milk)

I am not a chocolate fan but premier has a really good one. It's a pre mixed drink so great to grab when your on the go. One shake is 30 grams of protien. You can buy the chocolate at costco or they have vanilla online. It is $24 for a case of 18.

Nancy Marie is correct about Vitamin Shoppe and their return policy.. it is awesome. I bought the strawberry kiwi nectar and didn't like it at all but I couldn't find my receipt either so I thought I was out $35 but Vitamin Shoppe let me return that and exchange for another flavor. :)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
