All time high and feeling low

Recommended Posts

Knocked of 4 more appts today and am now waiting for insurance clearance. The scales tipped at 231 an all time high. I feel awful:sad:. I have to attend my husband's family reunion this weekend and had to buy new clothes just to make it through 3 days. I want to proceed with banding asap and find the waiting to be very hard.

Is it common to be down on yourself prior to surgery? I am so mad at myself for getting to this unhealthy, uncomfortable weight in the first place:mad:

To quote my surgeon the best thing you can do for yourself long term and for your safety during the surgery is to start loosing weight now. I will admit that when he talks like that it irritates me. Since my surgery had to be postponed for other health reasons I ended up loosing about 55 pounds from the time of my first consult until I had surgery. Once I made the decision I really wanted to move forward. Many surgeons require you to loose a percentage of body weight before they will do the surgery; soooo you may have a period of time you have to wait anyway. I ended up having to wait 7.5 months or the surgery.

Wow I am just at the begining of the process and am all hyped up about it all I hate that I am as big as I am right now but it is what it is and now I just want to get better. I don't know about the loosing before I am doing this surgery to loose waight cause I can't seamto loose otherwise so I am a bit nurvious about that posible aspect.

Yes, it's really easy to be mad at ourselves for getting to the highest weight we do, before we have surgery. I remember coming to this site and talking about how much I had eaten one day.

But the positive side is that all of us are doing something to change that, so try not to beat yourself up too much. My therapist once told me that whenever I start to think negative thoughts to imagine a stop sign, and realize that I don't have to be as unkind as I have been.

Congratulations on making this change. You're on the way to becoming a happier, healthier you.

Debbie

I'm very down on myself and my surgery isn't until October 15. My husband is a high school coach and football games have just started. He wants me to go to games and college gamewatching parties. I just don't feel like going places now unless I have to. I won't buy any kind of clothing now. I'm looking forward to losing the weight and shopping in my own closets full of clothes that I have refused to get rid of over the last few years as I've gained weight. Just hold on Gracierose.

I reached my all time high time while waiting for clearance. I could not believe when the scale read 300 pounds! I think its pretty common for those of us with weight issues to run a gauntlet of emotions relating to our weight and body image. Just know you are traveling down the right path, and when one is on the right path things will inevitably come to block us. Enjoy your family this weekend, and don't let anyone or anything knock you off your path.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
