Seasoned Bandsters

October is my month for the rest of my life.

Most everyone seems so positive about their decision and would do it again.

Anyone out there with regrets/ If yes, can you share why.

Thanks all for your inspiration.

I wish I'd done it sooner!

But seriously, I love my band. In no way, shape, or form do I regret getting it. On my bad days, sometimes I wish I'd gone for the bypass or sleeve...most of the time I'm fine but some days the dietary restrictions are a pain in the butt and I get frustrated because I want to stop on the way home from my son's soccer practice and get a freaking sandwich already...but bread and I are currently not friends so instead I come home and have something else...I know in the long run it's the best thing but like I said some days it is more work than I was expecting!

But overall 2 thumbs up. Good luck and congrats on taking charge of your health!

Most of the time none.

Lately, my blood sugar has been just a bit higher than normal, and I have been second guessing myself about gastric bypass.

My endocrinologist whom I hadn't seen for several years (he treated me for a thyroid problem pre-banding), was excited that the pre-diabetes hadn't progressed and that my weight had gone down in the years since I had seen him.

BUT, I know there are more things I can do to control my blood sugar.

So, overall, no..I have no regrets!

Low normal blood pressure, normal cholesterol, size 10 jeans, more energy. It's all good!

Hi, I had my surgery on 7-21-10. I sometimes 2nd guess myself on it, but have lost 16 pounds so that part is good. I think I would do it again, but I'm still new at this. I can tell you if you are an emotional eater be ready for the struggle that you have after, by not being able to eat when you want and what you want. I sometimes eat to fast or a little to much and am still getting used to this. It has been hard but I keep reading posts and learn from them and it has helped alot. I can't wait to loose more weight. One more thing I also feel the struggle I'm havin to relearn food is way better than being fat forever!!!!

None at all. I love my band and I'm glad I got it done when I was young instead of waiting.

I am 8 days post-op. I have no regrets. Surgery was easy. I came out wide awake. Eating too fast is a habit of mine that I now have to break. The consequences can be painful for a few minutes. I'm taking it a day at a time and looking forward to the future.

I'm only 2 days post-op and I just keep thinking of how I have been given the greatest tool in the world to assist me in my weight loss goals!! Even though I'm in pain from the gas in my shoulder and chest, I certainly don't regret doing it!! I can't wait for the future to start living my new lifestyle!!

Good Luck to you!!

I used to wish I done it back in 2008 when I spoke to my doctor, but I'm glad that I was being lazy. I know myself well and if I would have done it then I would not have been successful. My relationship with food and body movement has changed for the better and I know that's the key to a successful journey.

Like most people I wish I done this alot sooner...the last time I was still small was in Junior High...

This has been the best thing for me..I finally have restriction, pre surgery, it seemed like a bottomless pit...

I want to tell everyone who is struggling to have the surgery, its life changing...

No regrets...just happiness and most important I am healthy...no more fatty liver, high cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid problems and high blood pressure at 35.

How seasoned? I am 13 months out and I have no regrets. Not an easy journey but any means but definitely rewarding if you put in the thought and effort. It is the means to an end rather than a permanent surgical change.

Banded June 26, 2010. Had a very rough start. I had no restriction and for 6 weeks I wished I had not gotten the band.

Now I wish i had not put myself through torture for the first 6 weeks. That is my biggest regret. I had VERY high expectations and they were NOT met right after surgery. I should have relaxed but I didnt and I actually ate worse right after surgery than I did B4.

Now I have great restriction and I am losing and happy:thumbup:

:redface:I regret being a total psycho for the first 6 weeks:redface:

I was just banded on 8/16 so maybe I should be quiet right now but I absolutely have no regrets.

If any I regret that I didn't do this when I was in my 40's . I regret that I really had not heard of it when I was younger and yo-yoing and I regret that I didn't jump on it as soon as my Dr. told me about it.

I've lost 18lbs since surgery date and I'm extremely happy right now . Even though I have about 90 more lbs to go. I already feel so much better and I have a different outlook.

I know I will be successful with the band. Failure is not an option.

No regrets at all. My journey has been relatively uneventful. The hardest part? Changing my eating habits, acknowledging and trying to change my relationship with food, and the pre-restriction phase.

I haven't been my current weight since either I was early high school. My outlook on life is much more positive and exercising and eating better have become an important part of the journey.

If there was any regret, it is that this tool didn't come out 25 years ago when I first struggled with my weight. However, in my 20's I personally don't think I would have been mentally prepared to do what is needed for this to be a success. That's just me being realistic about myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
