I was just banded last Wednesday 8/25 and can not sleep! I was an insomniac prior to the surgery and take Trazadone and Ambien every night, but since the surgery my heart is racing and even the little I do sleep I dream about running or being chased because of my heart rate. Anyone have any ideas? I can't sleep and can't function! I have gone back to work already (surgery Wed went back Mon) and now I just feel like I am going to fall asleep at my desk!

Let me know your thoughts!

Tyna

I couldn't sleep either and I take a high blood pressure medication that also helps me sleep. I had my surgery the same day and I crush my pill in applesauce or pudding and it works well. The applesauce was kind of hard to get down but the pudding was a lot easier. I crush my pill and put sugar free pudding into a medication cup and eat it like that. I tried to just crush it and mix it with Water but it was unbearable. I ended up gagging and hurting my incisions. With the pudding or applesauce you can't taste the pills at all. Make sure to get sugar free products.

I had my surgery 8/18 and have slept very little, but am able to function well. It needs to be sugar free for weight loss.

I recommend talking to the psychiatrist that prescribes the meds. I have issues sleeping too and take meds as well. Sounds like you are having some pretty bad anxiety right now, which is understandable since you just had surgery.

I know these questions may seem stupid but are you drinking any caffeine? Is it possible that the trazadone is one of the reasons that you are having troubles sleeping? I read somewhere that it could cause sleeplessness. Everyone reacts differently to these drugs.

I hope you can get some sleep soon. Hopefully, I can fall asleep since my toddlers will be up before I know it.

Have you tried melatonin to help you sleep? They have the tablets that just "melt" under your tongue... they seem to really work for my husband. He sometimes falls asleep before me!!!

We buy them from GNC - http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4238831 - but I have seen several different Vitamin makers that also offer melatonin (@ Walmart, Rite Aid, etc)

Thank you all. I have broken the tablets down to a small size and they do taste terrible, but I am able to get them down. Trazadone is supposed to shut my mind off so I can sleep, so I never heard of it causing the opposite, but I will most definitely ask my Dr. I have my first post op tomorrow. I really miss sleeping and I reall can not function without at least 6-8 hours! I will try the melatonin, that is a great idea. Thanks. I dont drink any caffeine since the surgery so that is not it. I thought maybe my body was just burning the fat causing me to have that affect.

I'll let everyone know what the doc says tomorrow! Again, thank you all for your input!
