Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Help! Toledo, OH/SE Mich area

Recommended Posts

Hi! Banded Jan. 19th, 2009 at Flower Hosp in Sylvania. Dr. Duckett and DR. Oweis performed my surgery. Both the hospital and surgeons were excellent. I couldn't recommend them more! My issue is I have been stalled since Jan. 2010 due to complications with gallbladder and subsequent removal. As there is no support groups available right now with in this area I would love someone in the area to help get me back on track. Thanks~Stacy.

Hi Lapinmich,

I don't know if I would be of much help, but also feel stalled as well, so at least we are in the same boat  I am also an Ohioian and live in North Central Ohio. I had my surgery at OSU in April of this year. I have only lost twenty pounds and feel really stalled and would like to jump start my weight loss somehow. What areas have you been struggling with? I don't really go to a support group either. I have traveled to columbus from time to time to meet with a great group, but it gets hard to travel that far. I hope you are healing okay from your gallbladder issues.

Hi Jenpen2...I too have not lost very much either. 37lbs and seem to fluctuate between losing and gaining the last 5lbs since Jan. 2010. I am actually at the same weight I struggle at with every diet/weight loss attempt prior to surgery. I seem to get to this weight and stall. I really struggled mid April thru mid Aug of this year due to being completely unfilled due to gallbladder surgery. I know that I have become really complacent about my band. i also know that my last fill in mid Aug did not get me to restriction. I am at 7.8ccs in a 10cc band. I definitely can eat more than I should, for example I can eat an entire grilled chicken McD's salad! I know I need to re-commit so I am going to begin by increasing my Protein intake and walking 10,000 steps. These 2 things have helped in the past. What are some things you are struggling with? Have a great day!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
