Sure wish money grew on trees.....

Hi everyone! I just found out today that my insurance does not cover the band. How depressing! :cursing: I'm a teacher and you would think the district would want their staff fit/healthy so that they could pass that on the students!

Oh, well....so now I begin the process of coming up with the money. I REALLY want this surgery. From all of the posts I've been reading, it seems like it would be worth it.

Oh why, oh why, can't money grow on trees....it did when we were kids!! Hahahaha!!

Is it possible you could appeal to your insurance to provide proof that medically you need some sort of WLS? I know a lot of people have been able to successfully appeal. You may want to check out the insurance forum on here or look into getting banded in Mexico.

Either way, kudos to having the strength/push to get what you know is best for you! There are plenty of people who were self-pay and definitely don't regret the decision one bit.

This is just an option but did you consider going to Mexico? My daughter went in June to Dr. Ortiz and had wonderful results. The total cost was $6800 plus airfare. They picked her up at airport took her to hotel then to hospital next day. Day after surgery back to hotel for one day and then drove her back to airport. She has not had any problems and goes to my surgeon for her fills. My surgery has cost over $20,000 (most of it covered by my insurance) which I had done here. There are a lot of posts on here showing people who had surgery done in Mexico with great results. You can do some research and see for yourself. Good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
