Anyone have a lot of trouble doing the liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Tuesday 8/24 but I started a Protein Shake diet 4 days prior to that. I am supposed to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks post op. I am going crazy just having liquids, I am soo tired of chicken broth and Protein Shakes. Popsicles and Jello and such are cool but they don't fill my hunger. The first days post op I thought that it wouldn't be so bad since I didn't feel hunger so I didn't crave food so much. But once the swelling went down along with any restriction I am hungry all the time now and it seems like all I can think about is food. If I see others eating or smell food it gets ridiculous. I didn't think it would be so hard for me because I thought if all these other people got through it then I can and my BMI was at the lower end at a 35. A lot of times I feel like I would rather not eat and deal with the hunger rather than have another Protein shake. Was it reallyyy hard for other people?

It is important to do variety. I have high protien no carb hot chocolate that I have every morning and all of my liquids are protien powder Fruit Drinks (from Health Wise). The key to not getting hungry is to get your 70 grams of protien. It will curb your hunger. You will not be successful if you are not doing this. I also have a protien shake and protien broth every day. I found some great split pea Soup and vegetable beef broth on www.proteinshop.com . I am on my 13th day and doing really well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
