I know this is gross... but I have a sneaky feeling that I'm not the only one in this boat. I was banded on Aug 25 and haven't had a bowel movement since the 23rd. My surgeon recommended milk of magnesia which I took 2 tbsp of last night (with no effect) and took another 4 tbsp of today. i know there's stuff in my tummy because I can feel it and I feel totally bloated. If I don't have a bm by tomorrow I'm going to go to the pharamacy and see if they can recommend something different. The bloating is really (REALLY) getting to me and it's making me VERY uncomfortable.

Anyone have any advice?

There is a great laxative tea called "Smooth Move" it tastes good and kicks in within a few housrs. Plan to stay home because it will work for hours and clean you totally out. I just saw it at Rite Aid today and I have gotten it at Whole Foods in the past. It is great!!!

I second the Smooth Move tea. I was banded on the 26th, and hadn't had a bm by Saturday, so I was told to take the milk of magnesia. Well, it was so gross I couldn't swallow it, so I tried the tea. It worked within a couple of hours.

I bought an industrial size bottle of unflavored benefiber and I add it to Water, crystal lite, Soups, Protein Shakes and it has helped keep me regular. I do exercise everyday. Now that I can resume swimming I'm back up to an hour of cardio.

Miralax is the ONLY thing that has ever worked for me. It doesn't have a stimulant and won't cause cramps. You can put it in anything, Water, coffee, etc. Or even sprinkle it on food. Post surgery I had to do 4 doses before it started working but since then I'm back on track. It's over the counter and gentle, I suggest you give it a try.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
