Lap-Band for non obese?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to get a lap-band procedure done if your NOT overweight/obese? As a preventative to becoming overweight? I weigh between 50-52kg and I''m 5'5 feet.

Probably not.

that's not to say it wouldnt be a sensible idea for some people. I mean, I told someone I had a lapband the other day and she said "why on earth would YOU need one?".

I may be 150lb and 5ft 10, and look pretty fit and toned, but I am an obese person and I always will be. I need my band to stay this way. I could have maybe lost that 100lb without a band, for sure, (not likely, lol) but I would always be fighting my body's tendency to want to be heavy and always waging a battle over appetite and food.

I can see that someone who may not actually be overweight but has to work mightily to not be could benefit from something like a lapband as a preventative measure.

But unfortunately, I doubt you'd get any doctor to do it, or any insurance company to pay for it.

I would say, extremely unlikely.

It would be like sending someone to intensive rehab for a non existant drug problem.

Perhaps if you are that concerned with gaining weight, eat healthy and excercise:) There is no quick fix.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
