Thanks so much! I appreciate the Advice! I guess getting going back to the Gym wouldn't be a bad idea at all? What about the Appetite/Dietary, should I start restricting or getting used to smaller things now?

Thanks again all!

I would go to a support group a few times.

To practice, they have me eating small bites, chew chew chew your food now to get used to it, not drinking when eating, taking Calcium citrate and flintstones complete chewable. Get off the carbinated beverages now (hard to do for many, myself included).

You could try a few Protein drinks to see what you do and do not like. unjury has a sample package you can buy to try all their flavors. I think Bariatric Advantage does also. (google their names).

Try South Beach (if you haven't before)... you're technically not limited on quantity, but you are eating MUCH healthier, and It will be easier for you to find out what you like, and you can think of ways to adapt it to how you can eat after the surgery.

I'd also begin keeping a diet journal (even if you don't diet) so you can get used to keeping track of calories etc... I use FitDay, which allows you to even create "custom foods" by entering in the food label (or looking it up online)/ If you're pretty good at entering the info, and maybe weighing or estimating really well, it will automatically keep track of nutrients for you - protein/fat/carbs even micronutrients and Vitamins too... It also tracks weight, BMI and has mathematical formulas to tell you how many calories per day you can eat to lose weight at any given pace (you choose).

It helps you see what your nutritional deficiencies are... Before using I swore I was getting a lot of Protein, but turns out I get only a fraction of Protein recommendations, so I know that's something I really have to work on.

I swear I'm not a bot... i really love the program, and i have sorta OCD about it... (I purchased the download version -much better than the free version) and i weigh everything and enter "custom" foods all the time instead of relying on pre-programmed guesses.

Sorry so long-winded.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
