zeniada 9 Posted August 30, 2010 hi all it is now 4 days post-op for me and i have one major problem...I CAN NOT BURP! I so wish i could to help get rid of all this gas it just sits in my tummy and then goes to my shoulder. I can flatulate (fart) but no burp and it really hurts if i try. Will I ever be able to burp again??? Has anyone had this problem? If only i could burp then I know that I wouldn't be having so much shoulder pain
reverie 49 Posted August 30, 2010 It will go away. Take some Gas-X and walk, the gas will start to spread out. Try a warm compress on your shoulder if it hurts that bad. You'll be able to burp again but I wouldn't worry too much right now.
Humming Bird 275 Posted August 30, 2010 The burping does get much easier with time. There will be a point when you can burp like normal again. The shoulder pain may last awhile depending the cause. If it is gas, it will be gone very soon. If it is pressure on the phrenic nerve it may take months to go away.
HappyDay 0 Posted August 30, 2010 I'm almost 6 months post op and cannot burp - it's very frustrating!!! I hate that part.....but I guess everyone is different.
BetsyB 9 Posted August 30, 2010 I'm 7 months postop and don't burp anymore, either. The good news is that by adopting the slower, smaller, more careful eating, the need is not frequent. Still, it was an oddity I didn't expect!
