Albertp2000 0 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) I am about 4 days out of surgery and my wife and I argued over whether we can eat rice. She claims it expands in your stomach and doesnt go down easy. What do you guys think? Edited August 30, 2010 by Albertp2000
HappyHomeCC 2 Posted August 30, 2010 I do fine on brown rice but not white rice... I mix zuchini and Eggplant into it... garlic, sundried Tomato YUM!
reverie 49 Posted August 30, 2010 I wouldn't eat rice 4 days post-op. It does expand in the stomach and 4-days after surgery seems a little bit too early to have to deal with that. Rice is known to cause issues with a lot of bandsters.
chubbynurse 0 Posted August 30, 2010 I was told that rice and other carbs like Pasta and bread will expand in your stomach the way they do when they're cooked...Also, the carb content is high, so when you're ready to, try brown rice.
elcee 3,341 Posted August 30, 2010 I eat rice no problem. I eat white and brown rice but I don't buy the kind that sticks together in clumps like glue once its cooked. I also eat all my food mixed together rather than seperating each food. Not sure if this helps or not.
MaggieB 6 Posted August 30, 2010 Everyone is different. I don't have any problem with rice - white or brown. I rarely eat it tho.
twyla420 0 Posted August 30, 2010 I don't eat any kind of rice or Pasta. I just don't like the way it feels when I chew it. It tastes like glue and I'm too afraid it will get stuck. I haven't eaten it since I've been banded, in March, and I don't miss it at all.
L12 13 Posted September 1, 2010 As long as you are eating fully cooked rice, it shouldn't expand in your stomach as it has already expanded from absorbing liquid during cooking. I rarely have a problem eating rice.
dar36 5 Posted September 1, 2010 I wouldn't touch the rice yet, especially at 4 days post op. You certainly could call your doctor and ask. I attempted to eat something that wasn't recommed after a week and it wasn't a pleasant experience. It isn't worth the potential pain. Didn't your doctor recomment clear and full liquids until after the second week?
AmyC315 0 Posted September 7, 2010 I was a couple weeks post-op before I tried rice. At first I tried to eat it by itself and I got stuck. About a week later I tried it again slower & mixed with veggies and didnt have any problem.
citygirl4616 2 Posted September 7, 2010 I can usually eat a small amount of rice, but I cannot eat any sushi rice. The rice that is used in sushi rolls is way to sticky, and always ends up stuck in my band. I would suggest starting with a small amount of rice and eating it very slowly. Saraboo 21 Posted September 8, 2010 9 1/2 months post-op, and it's a hit and miss thing for me. sometimes I can eat it no problem, sometimes i'll take a bite with like 3 kernals and be sliming for hours. You just never know...
goosapotomus 0 Posted September 24, 2010 That has been a big question for me too...I love Asian food, especially white rice but I don't particularly like the sticky type rice, glad to hear that there are some that can tolerate it! Hope I'm one of those!!!
