Taking Protein shakes to work...

question for those who have been through the process and work at the same time:

how did you deal with the pre-op liquid diet at work in terms of maybe concealing your WLS from co-workers??

also those who had to do Protein Shakes, how did you package your Protein shakes? did you take the powder and mix there, pre-make them or buy the pre-packaged?

sorry if there is confusion, just wondering

I didn't really try to conceal it; a lot of people I work with know that I had some sort of surgery, others I just told them I was doing a detox (LOL).

But, it was definitely hard to eat soup/mushed stuff for weeks when everyone else was enjoying pizza. We had 2 office parties during that time and it was SO hard.

As for the Protein Shakes I'd make them at home and bring them along with me. I also bought the ones that are pre-made which made things a lot easier. I never got weird looks drinking Protein shakes; seems a lot of people around here bring them in for Snacks, etc.

In my opinion nosy co workers are less likely to comment about odd healthy lunches then they are fattening ones (I had a boss that would announce every day how many calories her lunch had; one of her favorites was a vegan broth with 15 calories:rolleyes:). As for post surgery many people (including myself) ended up having a Hietal sp? Hernia repaired. You could tell people that and say it requires you to be on a progressive diet from liquids to solids and that would be true. My mother was kind of relived when she heard that because now she can tell my aunts that and it is not a lie.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
