I'm hungry

Recommended Posts

Last time I had anything to eat was wednesday night. Since then I've had Water and tea and that's it. Oh, and popsicles. I am freakin hungry! Tomorrow I am allowed to have Protein Shakes, and I was looking forward to that, but now I don't even want that. I just want food. I don't even need bad food, just any food. I have to be on Protein shakes for 2 weeks, there is no way I will make it! And besides, I am supposed to go back to work before the 2 weeks is over, and I stand on my feet for 8 hours at a time. While I am on protein shakes I will be eating 300 calories a day, how will I ever have the energy to work?

I am in the same spot as you but I already cheated, I was too starving.

I hope the hunger subsides for you!

Does your surgeon allow Jello or anything? If not maybe ask what kind of foods you can add in to keep you from being so hungry? The Protein Shakes will keep you full for awhile but definitely not for too long!

I'd call and ask for suggestions as to what you can safely eat. In the end, keep your head up and keep pushing! These few weeks will seem like a breeze once they're over with.

Nope, no Jello. They have a book, and it outlines exactly what you can have, and it says exactly what you can't have. It says in bold type no broth, but I had some yesterday. I know a lot of others are allowed to have it so I figure it wouldn't kill me. I wish I knew the reasons behind some of what they do, because they seem much stricter than most other doctors.

I am having my first Protein shake today, but it's not really doing it for me. I realized yesterday that part of it is that I want to sit down and have a meal. I mean, normally I eat 3 meals a day, plus I am busy doing other things like working and doing errands. Now that I am home recovering, I am not doing anything, and with not eating either, my life is so empty. There is no buying food, preparing food, eating food. It's annoying and it makes me crazy, it's like my day is endless and has no separation in it, there is no difference between morning and night. I know it's only for 2 weeks, but right now that seems like a really really long time.

Yeah, the book does suck. And I admit, I am not listening to it. I mean, if other people can eat things it's not like I will get hurt if I eat them. So like I said, yesterday I had broth, and then this afternoon I had some strained cream of mushroom Soup. I am still full from that, it feels so so so good. I went out today and bought some more Soups and also some apple sauce. If I can eat these things in addition to the Protein Shakes, I will survive. It was so nice to eat something with a utensil, lol.

FYI for the first week I was on Clear Liquids broth (though stock tastes way better), sugar free popsicles, and sugar free Jello. Second week I could add Tomato Soup and yogurt. So depending how many days since your surgery I would be careful about moving to a puree type Soup. At three weeks I was allowed to add ricotta, cottage cheese, tofu, and thin mashed potatoes/yams. I had my post op consult today and tried to get approval to put regular food in the blender. REJECTED.:cursing: No mushies for my doctor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
