Initial appointment on Wednesday and having a tone of anxiety

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

I have my first appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday and I'm so extremely borderline with my BMI of 35. I will be heartbroken if I don't qualify! Any words of wisdom?!

Hi There!

Have you contacted your insurance company to be certain of their requirements? If they require co-morbidities, do you have them? Do you have the required history of obesity, if they need one?

Also, this is not the time to dress light for the scale. Wear jeans and heavy shoes, have a hearty Breakfast, and drink plenty of Water before your appointment. Don't stress yourself into not eating for the next few days!

Hi Cocoa,

Yep, I've checked with my insurance. They require a BMI of 40 or 35 with co morbidities, of which I have high blood pressure, poor joints and some emotional affects of the poor self image (those are their "insurance" terms). I've battled my weight for almost 15 years with a long history of Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, Optifast etc. I'm also required to have a 6 month medically supervised diet which I officially started last week. I'm hoping they take my weight on Wednesday as my insurance qualifiying weight. I'm also hoping I measure 5'2" instead of 5'3". Re-reading my words here almost makes me chuckle because it all seems so comical just to become healthy and happy.

The one thing I'm certain of is that no stress will hinder my appetite so I'm gonna give it my all over the next couple of days. I've been told to drink alot of Water prior to my appointment and wear the heavy clothes.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Well, when they say, "stand up straight," wiggle a bit, but don't stretch too hard! Sounds like you have your ducks in a row.

Stress does not take away my appetite, either. Best wishes for your appointment!

I didn't have a BMI of 40 either so I too wore heavy clothes and ate a good Breakfast. I did have a couple of co-morbidities at the time but the whole process uncovered a couple of more serious ones that I was unaware of. It also explained a lot of the issues that I was experiencing. So ultimately, the process helped me get the insurance coverage I needed. I was banded 12 days ago and feel like a million dollars.

My best to you.

Hi Dar,

I'm unfortunately borderline with a 35 BMI but like you I have a couple of co morbidities, hoping to discover more as the process moves forward. (how messed up is it to say that)

As stressful and high maintenance as this process is and gonna be, I'm excited to begin!

Munch on salty Snacks also! They will help you retain the Water you drink...

Good luck!

Hey all!

I did it!!! I drank enough Water and had a BMI of 36!!! All I have left is my 6 month medically supervised "diet". I'm hoping to get it all done and the next 6 months go by quickly. Hoping you're all well!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
