I have been banded since May and I have slimed several times. It happens when food gets stuck at the band. It happened to me because I was not used to taking small bites and chewing enough. When you get stuck, your body produces this slimy substance that just keeps coming up. I would not call it vomit, because all that comes up is this slime - like egg whites. LOTS of it, it just keeps coming until whatever is stuck comes back up as well. It comes up about 2 or 3 tablespoons at a time, but just keeps coming. Once the stuck food comes out the episode is over and there is no pain. It does not hurt, but if you feel it start to happen you better get to a bathroom quick because there is no stopping it. The best way to avoid it is to take small bites and chew, chew, chew. That was the hardest thing for me to get used to. That is how it happened with me, anyway.

Thanks for asking that question. I never heard of it. I was banded on Aug 17 and prior to surgery I was a really fast eater and didn't chew my food very much. It definitely sounds like something I need to keep in mind!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
