Port is at an angle, & I can feel it about 1/4'' below the skin!

Recommended Posts

I was banded about 10 days ago and since the very beginning, I could feel the edge rim of my port, which my doctor placed right next to my belly button (literally right next to). It feels like its at a 15 to 20 degree angle, with the highest rim futhest from my bellybutton. I would guess that its 1/4 to 1/2 inch below my skin and assume that with minimal weight loss, it will be veeeeeerrrrryyyy apperent.

I have an appt on Monday to speak with him and see what he says. Has anyone had this experience?

Yes, mine was easily felt just under the skin initially, but it has adjusted itself and now I can't feel it as well as I did before. I think the swelling had something to do with it. Now I am barely aware of the port. It's good to check with your doctor. I hope you don't have to back under the knife!

All the best!

YES! My port is near my belly button too! My doctor said that as I lose weight it will definitely be noticable, especially when I have my arms stretched up. He didn't have much of a choice with placement because I had a Tummy Tuck and Lipo about two years ago and my stomach doesnt' have much fat around it. He couldn't put it anywhere else. He even had to use an older style port to get it to fit in.

He did say, however, that as they come out with new style ports, he will replace my port with a new one and attempt to place it somewhere else.

It is quite noticable to me and anyone can easily feel it under my skin right now and I had surgery on Aug 17. I have dropped almost 20 pounds and I am sure once I drop another 20 it is going to be quite a site to see.

Currently it doesn't bother me, but I perhaps I may feel differently later. I am just happy that I finally got the surgery. Today I fit into a pair of size 12 shorts and was able to do activities that would have completely had winded me a few months ago. I feel AWESOME so the port thing doesn't bother me yet.

I was banded 13 days ago. I had single incision. My port is right next to my belly button as well. I can feel it, OMG. I'm not too worried about it because I know I may be eligible for revision surgery if it's too noticeable once I lose the weight. Honestly I don't care, I'm just SO happy to be banded. My advice, don't worry about it when it become a problem worry about it.

Mine's higher up, and can very easily be felt---it's been easily palpable from the very beginning.

I worried that it would become very apparent with weight loss, but it hasn't. It's gotten itself well-seated in the muscle, and while I can feel it, I really can't see it. At this point, the area where it's situated is pretty lean, and I'm finding that all of my worries were for naught.

If you do find that yours is an issue, in terms of appearance, as you approach your goal, they can switch to a low-profile port---I will probably have this done when I have plastic surgery (simply because it's part of what the surgeon does)---but if I weren't already heading into an OR, I don't think I'd bother.

I hope yours 'settles down' like mine has---really, it was a lot of worry for nothing, for me :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
