Hello all,

I'm Stan and I hope to be banded in October. about 80% through the process; get my GI series done today. I'm 6'5" and 380 lbs., 51 years old.

Tired of carrying another whole person around on me,and I've probably lost and regained that person a few times now. As the day gets closer and I progress through the hoops, I alternate between excited about doing something good and frustrated that I have to resort to this.

Sound familiar?

Thanks!

Congrats on deciding to get banded and welcome to the boards! I definitely understand the ups and downs emotionally, but in the end it is really all worth it.

When I read your post I got a visual of a person who was riding on your back, then you shrugged him off and he fell to the ground, then ran up behind you and jumped back on. Boy does that give me a visual image to my dieting past. I think the band helps keep that person from jumping back on.

Good luck in your process and welcome to LBT.

Sounds very familiar.... I think about that all the time, how did I let myself get to this... and could I or should I do it on my own.. But the truth is that I have tried many many other things and do manage to loose the weight but regain it and plus some... I wan't this weight off for good and I just need a tool to help me.... Welcome to LapBand Talk.. you will find it so helpful and re-assuring... :)

Thanks for the replies... and the positive outlook!

Funny thing... that person that keeps jumping on my back, and falling off??? That so and so gains a few pounds every single time!!

Today is a good day, looking forward to band. Had my insurance required GI series Friday, and hope to hear from the doc's office very soon!

I have no doubt this weight has affected me emotionally as well... lack of self-confidence, self-esteem, etc...

Am I wrong in thinking those things will pick up as the scale goes down and I can see my feet again???

Thanks!!

The emotional/mental issues definitely don't just fix themselves. Even after being down 60+lbs and getting a new compliment each day, I still really struggle with the self-confidence factor and while I do see a skinny(ish) person in the mirror, I do still feel like I weigh 245lbs, not 180lbs.

I'm guessing it comes with time but I can say I do feel a little bit better about myself. Seeing the scale drop and buying smaller clothes does help in a sense!

Well now the date is looking to be Late Jan., due to some dr. requirements, etc... but man I'm ready for this. At least the time delay has been good in a very clear way; I've definitely learned, from speaking with friend and relatives who have been banded, that the band is only a tool, not a magic bullet. I really needed to get that in my head and down pat. Now I'm looking forward to being banded even more!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
