Not that great at waiting...

Recommended Posts

So, I contacted US Bariatrics in St. Augustine, faxed my insurance cards and some patient info, filled out an online medical history that was approximately 513577 pages long...I called today and they said I need to wait a week or possibly TWO to find out if my insurance COVERS the procedure.

UM?

I told her that I already called and it IS covered and she informed me that they still have to call.

How does this take weeks!?

Should I just find a new place? I'm afraid to because I don't want everyone hounding my insurance company all at once.

But, I really hate waiting...

Have you ever worked with ANY insurance company? They write everything in code and then have monkey's try to translate this code. Once successful, they pony express the results by snail across the desert to be read by blind monks. Once this process is complete, they may or may not bother to let you know.

Basically insurance companies do things on their own time. :]

But I haven't even been seen yet.

This is just for them to find out of my insurance COVERS it

(which it does!) Not an approval!

I was just trying to be funny ... but that is insanely ridiculous.

I guess they try to find all the loopholes they can to try and deny you.

This whole process is a slow one!! Especially when you have made your mind up to infact HAVE the surgery!

My first appointment (beyond two group appointments) is Monday!

Braaaaaaaaaains!!! :c) Your post was actually very funny. I'm just not that great at waiting ;c) <3

It's not my insurance that's holding up this process at THIS point. It's the Dr's office! I don't want them to move slow! LOL! I want my surgery NEXT WEEK.

I think that's really the problem - it's what ajames said. I made up my mind and now I want it to happen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
