dar36 5 Posted August 29, 2010 Wow! 57 pounds is a lot of weight. Good for you! We all want the weight to come off as fast as possible, but remember that Losing an average of 1-2 pounds a week is healthy and should be the goal. I have had many times that I hit a wall and I know everyone's body is different, but for me, when I really commit to exercise, it makes all the difference. Are you exercising regularly? gloglo 0 Posted August 29, 2010 Have you tried the low carb diet. My doc explained it to me and it makes sense. If you avoid carbs, your body burns fat because it does not have the carbs to burn for energy. Try eating Proteins and low carb vegies. Keep the carbs to 40 gms a day. The Atkins book is a good resource for low carb high Protein diet.
BetsyB 9 Posted August 29, 2010 All of the responses are great! The problem is I do exercise, but I don't do it consistently. I try, but I always get wrapped up doing something else. I really don't know what to do once I get to the gym...does anyone have any exercise pointers or workout routines that have been successful. Yes. For me, it's very simple: I lace up shoes and walk out the door--and keep walking (FAST!) until I've walked at least 3.5 miles. I do this twice a day (my dog reminds me!)---rain or shine, winter or summer, no excuses. The only time I don't do this is if there is lightning or it's so cold that even the most careful bundling still leaves me at risk of frostbite. I do go to the gym, too--but like you, can find a million excuses. Even when there, it's easy to get sidetracked---a piece of equipment is broken, it's crowded and I have to retool my workout for the day, I'm experiencing a pain flare-up (I have a handful or orthopedic and neuro issues that often require modification of activity), whatever....wrenches can get thrown into the works. But lacing up shoes and walking out the door? THAT I can always do just the way it needs to be done---regularly, without fail, and without worry about equipment, crowds, etc.
AFmom 3 Posted August 29, 2010 It sounds like your weigh loss is wonderful overall! To get past this plateau I would suggest working out with the Leslie Sanson "Walk at Home" DVD's. I was walking several miles a day outside, but once the weather got hot, I just could not keep it up. Leslie's program is easy to follow, just walking and 4 basic steps. I could never follow an aerobics class, even when I was thin, but this I can do! Currently I am doing her "4 Fast Miles" DVD, it keeps your heart rate up, and makes you sweat. Hope this helps!
