When dermabond falls off???

Recommended Posts

I had a "hunk" of dermabond that kinda piled up in my belly button I guess and today it came off. The area is moist with some serous (clear) drainage and some light pink, yellow, and white areas. Did anyone else look like this when theirs came off under the dermabond? If you didn't have dermabond what did the doc use as a dressing?

I had problems because I was allergic to Dermabond and got a nasty rash; however, the doc said ANY drainage to come right in because they were worried about infection of the skin. You may want to just check with your doc.

When was your surgery? I had mine on Friday, and the dermabond is still intact. I shower with it every morning. I agree that you should check with your surgeon, because the incisions should be clean/dry/intact with no drainage.

Did you have the regular 5 incision type surgery or the single through your belly button?

I would call your surgeon and report it because drainage isn't normal and the yellow color could mean infection.

I had the belly button incision and a very small one next to it just for suturing down my port... I'm going to have my bf look at it tonight... he's a surgeon... I'm just curious what other people's look liked... He said small drainage was normal when I asked him on the phone but I'll make him take a peak anyway :(

Yeah I imagine if the belly button was used that there may also be some tissue sloughing that is not really anything bad

The boyfriend cleaned it out for me yesterday and said it looks okay. He said it looks like maybe they just didn't clean it out very well before they put the dermabond on and that they probably stretched the incision which caused some of the discoloration I saw. He said just keep neosporin on it and clean out with peroxide. Today it's looking a million times better :o I think the dermabond was just keeping in the gook that needed to come out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
