are gummy vitamins ok?

Recommended Posts

So, before my surgery I bought the "target brand" Gummy muti Vitamins and thought it would be fine. But after i got home I remembered the nutritionist told us "no gummy candy". (I remember this because she had a slide on the overhead with a gummy bear on it with a red X going through him...made me sad...lol) Anyway, I took them back and got chewable hard Flinstones.< /span>

Well, I see alot of ppl on here saying they take the gummies. So are they really hard-chewy (like gummy bears) or do they kinda dissolve in your mouth after you chew them for a bit? I don't wanna break the law or anything, but I would much rather have those if I can than yucky Flinstones, or the Bariatric ones...blah! :(

The gummies I have found do not have any Iron in them but my Dr said I could do gummies because they are the ONLY Vitamin that does not make me vomit on an empty stomach. The ones I have are sort of round, not bear shaped, and they taste just like candy. I am careful to chew really really good and have not had a problem. I got them at Walmart and cant remember the brand.

My doctor and nutritionist approved the Cars gummy vitamins. They are the only ones I like.

i take the Vita fusion Gummy Vitamins from Target.

Their really good and a quick chew.

Somedays I take Centrum chewables, whichever I reach first.

I think your nutrionist was probably referring to gummy bears or candy because their an easy slide through .

My Surgeons office likes the gummies and i oh so nicely reminded them about teeth decay associated with Gummy types of candy/vitamins. I work in a dental office! Brush your teeth after taking them.

I wanted to take these but with the added calories (sometimes even carbs) and the amount you need to take to equal to a normal chewable Vitamin (ie. Centrum) I said no thanks and sucked it up to chewing my disgusting pill each morning.

Thanks everybody! I think I will suffer through and Flinstones for now (don't want to waste $$) but then I will more than likely switch to gummies. Sounds like nobody has had a problem...just me being paranoid.

I actually had to have an unfill because of a Gummy Vitamin C. You'd have thought it would dissolve eventually, but it didn't seem to. So just be extra cautious. Not everyone can get away with them!

My nutritionist is vividly against the gummies because they can get stuck for some, but mostly because they don't have any iron... which is a biggie! She won't even give them to her kids because of it! Flintstones all the way here!

My surgeon OK'd them. You have to chew them up into bits like anything else. You take 2 very small gummy vitamins as a dose (to equal a chewable tablet or a swallowable pill), together they are smaller than one piece of Gummy candy.< /p>

I use the Target brand gummies and have never had a problem. I've had periodic blood tests to make sure my Iron level is good. If I need more iron, I'll start looking for other Vitamins.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
