I think that eating chocolate and cheese and tortilla chips will be fine... but in moderation. If I cut out all of my favorite foods, I think I'd go crazy. Having a little bit every now and then will help prevent me from wanting to just binge and go crazy. I was only banded yesterday.... and like many of the posters here, some of my favorites include potatoes, Pasta, rice.... also steak (which I hear can be hard to digest). Steak is something that I just can't give up. We bbq 4-5 times per week in the summer and although there are alternatives (chicken, salmon, etc.), nothing beats a steak in my opinion. I'm interested to see how that will agree with me once I'm allowed to eat solid foods again.

I have been banded since May, and I only just tried a steak a couple of weeks ago. My husband grilled some New York strips and I was worried that it would not go down, but is was like butter...went down with no problem! My doc told me to try filet, but that is not what my husband brought home :o Hope you will be enjoying steak again soon :P

Hey AFmom! Thanks for the support. I'm really looking forward to a juicy tenderloin ... probably not any time soon. Glad to hear that you're having success with being able to eat all the good stuff... I'm hoping that I'll have the same kind of luck. It's going to take a while to get used to chewing my food so much... I don't do that now so we'll see how that goes.

Hope you have continued success! I'm very excited about the future and seeing some results :o

The only thing so far that I have given up is bread! when I use mayo I split it 40% real mayo and 60% LF mayo. It works for me. Other than that, I dont deny myself anything. My portions are just really small.

jingleboob, what a surprise to see someone on here from our hometown, Syracuse, New York. We miss the New York State Fair and we used to live for the Dinosaur Barbeque sandwich every year. I misss the food there so much, it makes it easier to handle here with such a limited amount of good food in Arizona. Good luck on your band journey with all that good food at your fingertips.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
