Hi all... I had my band in January 2010. They found hiatal hernia and repaired in surgery... was taking heart burn meds before. Stopped all meds after surgery and have lost 70 pounds. Was up to 4 1/2 cc's in band. About 2 months ago.. had band emptied as was having problems swallowing, and throwing up. About2 weeks later had endoscopy and barium swallow... showed no slipage, everything normal. Did alittle better... now for last month having really bad reflux... mainly at night... even to the point of aspirating... congested cough then half the day... some throwing up...I am also back on prilosec twice a day. I have a dr apt tomorrow and am gonna ask them to remove the band. I haven't slept much for a month... so tired of feeling sick and tired. Has anybody had such problems?? :)

Those are the same sx I have had. I am new to this site and do not have a Dr anymore. I believe my band has slipped also, but this has not been confirmed. Unfortunately, I had my band unfilled and now have gained most of my weight back. Please let me know what you find out. I am searching for a great Surgeon/Gastro Dr and then I will look into what to do next. Now that it is empty I do not have any problems with the horrible reflux and aspirating, but now I am gaining weight which terrifies me.

hi - I see it has been a while since your post but I am hoping you will see this. I am curious about what has happened with you. I have been having problems as well (banded 2/3/10). I have had the endoscope, upper gi and everything "looked normal". I have been have burning pain in my stomach. My GI doc says it is reflux even though it does not come up my throat (thank goodness - I am sure that is NOT FUN). I get this pain as soon as I eat and it can last a hours or minutes. Just constant burn and stomach gurgling. I was getting better, went for a fill and it started all over. I got an unfill but I am still suffering. Please let me know if this sounds familiar. DId you have your band removed? If so, did your symptoms improve? If I decide to have mine removed I will have to pay and I paid $18,000 already to put this thing in. Now honestly, when I feel like this, I regret it. I would rather be fat and happy then thinner but so miserable I can't function. Thanks for any reply

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
