Gas... stay away from me!

Recommended Posts

Not sure why... but the past 2 days I've been a gas machine. Still on liquids... 2nd week post op. I can start mushies on Friday. Only thing I can think of is I had strained cream of broccoli Soup, but it's an insane amount of gas- you can hear it going through my lower abdomen. And it comes out on it's own because it builds up so fast... and if I'm lucky I make it to the bathroom as I'm still experiencing the liquid in, liquid out joys and I have no desire for another accident of that kind.

Is this something that's happened to others post op? Or should I bring it up with my Dr tomorrow at my post op appt?

So embarassing!!! What a fun first day back at work! :)

Haha; VERY normal. I can't say mine was too bad but I've read others having (and still having) a lot of gas post-op. It'll get better!

Well I used to use Philips Colon Health. It helped a lot with my stomach issues. I stopped taking it before my surgery. I started it again today though b/c I keep getting these horrible gas pains. It helped in the past so I'm hoping it will help again.

I bought a large container of unflavored Benefiber from costco and am putting it in everything. I am week two full solids. I put it in Soups, crystal light, Protein Drinks. This has helped me keep me regular.

Wouldn't kaopectate or pepto help with the gas and diarrhea???

I was banded 3 days after you and I find that GasX peppermint strips help quite a bit. They dissolve on your tongue. I also have the liquid out problem. Looks like this is normal.

Ok everyone, I am on day six of being banded and I am not complaining, but why haven't I had all the gas pain that everyone is talking about? I even had a hiatal hernia fixed and was expecting shoulder pain. I have had very little gas or pain. I guess I should be grateful!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
