Pain medication - how long did you take them?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 8/4 (2.5 weeks out) and I am still taking the narcotic pain meds at least once of day because of discomfort. I am concerned i am in more pain or I am just a baby! How long were others on their ped meds?

I also tried the liquid Tylenol and it doesn't due much for the pain.

I took the pain med for 7 days. I had quite a bit of discomfort at my belly button site. But after 7 days i did not need it any more. the pain had improved.

I think I took my pain meds 6 or so days out then I realized all the itching that was going on was a allergic reaction to the pain med. Surgeon said to just take tylenol. I cant stand the taste of liquid tylenol so I have been without. The pain does get better.

I wanted to post the same question. I understand your concern over two weeks after your surgery and still feeling pain sounds a little unusual. Regardless everyone's pain level and tolerance is different. I am 5 days post op and am still taking my pain meds. I too can't tolerate a lot of pain. Maybe this is why I still taking mine.

I may need to contact my doctors office to get a refill. I'm going to take them as long as I have pain or discomfort and as long as the doctor says it's ok. I think you should contact your doctor. If the doctor oks it then continue. You're not a baby.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
