Ok this is a totally stupid thing to worry about but sometimes i fear that i wont wake up from my surgery this Thursday... I had a bad experience when i had a kidney stone removed and had my lung collapse during surgery so i woke up still intubated and couldnt breath so now i'm freaked out that it will happen again or that i just wont wake up at all. Have any of the other post-opers feel this way?

It may be the Polly Anna in me but I have no worries. I just know this is going to be a piece of cake(sugar free cake)! This will be my first time for surgery but I am so excited about the future and the benefits I cannot bring my self to worry. My wife is by my side and that's a HUGH comfort!

Be strong and try to keep a positive attitude.

I am nervous and I am sure my nervousness will get worse over the next few days:scared2:Do you know about what time your surgery is yet? I check in at 11:00 a.m. I will be thinkin of ya--lynda

i will be getting banded 8/26 as well:) i have the exact same fear! i just know, as long as i wake up, this is going to be great! i even wrote a letter to my husband & daughter just in case. i told my sister where i hid it and will just come home and throw it out if all goes well.

this is really my only fear right now-not the band itself.

no really great advice other than think of all the dangers of extra weight. we could also die from heart attack and so many other things related to being fat. this is a great thing we are doing!!!

Lapband was my first surgery ever as well and I did think about not waking up. However, the chances are extremely rare. If you're worried, talk to the anesthesialogist before surgery. Tell him what happened previously and he will make note of it. It's definitely a valid concern, but if your doctors know your medical history, you'll be fine!

Relax and before you know it you'll be waking up out of surgery banded on your journey.

I worry about the exact opposite when I think about up coming surgery. I heard of people that are not asleep and can feel the whole opperation. This has never happened during previous surgery I've had but there is alway the first time for everything. Since I found out about this I always tell the doctor to make sure I am really, really, really out.

The odds of NOT waking up from any surgery are quite low.

Think of it this way: If you don't wake up, you will never know it. Maybe it sounds a little weird, but it is true!!

I have a combo of both fears mentioned. :] I have a phobia of dying period. I've seen medical "shows" where people are just paralyzed from the gas but can feel everything and I also fear that I won't wake up. So I'm double crazy. :scared2:

I'm sure the fears are very, very normal and the chances of either happening are quite low.

Hi Zeniada,

I'm also in Chula Vista:smile:My surgery is not until 09/22 but that is also my biggest fear not the lapband it self. But the anesthesiologist are doctors and they do this all the time. I've had two previous surgeries for other things and that has always been my fear but before I know it I'm waking up... You are going to be fine and I look forward to hearing about your journey....But do mention to the dr. about what happen last time:redface:

It's funny, while I knew that could be an issue and I am a BIG worrier by nature, I was not afraid of that. My friends tell me that is b/c I have no family. ( assume they meant children/hubby or I guess my sister and brother don't count LOL).

I was oddly at peace going in. I did pray the night before, but was not overtly worried. You know the surgeon and his results and just have to have faith. Don't work yourself up and raise your BP...then they will post-pone, and you don't want that!

Best of Luck

Someone told me about an insurance product, Complication Insurance, which you might want to look into purchasing if you are worried about complications of the surgery. I know I will be buying a policy when I get my procedure scheduled. Good luck.

It's normal to be scared of any surgery. After you lose the weight your breathing will be so much better you know?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
