After Surgery questions

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I'm looking into having LAP-BAND® surgery and I'm using this site to see real results good and bad. I've read somethings that have triggered questions. Hope you can help. I'm 5'7 280 lbs - I carrier most of my weight in my stomach. If the surgery works I'm worried I will have a bunch of hanging skin. How many of you have gotten a Tummy Tuck and did your insurance cover the surgery? Also some people said they were disbanded due to erosion. How long does the band work? and does insurance cover the cost to remove or replace the band?

Thank you for your time.

Hello... I have yet to be banded but will be getting it done on the 26th of this month i have been doing lots or research and know that there will be skin issues at least for me cuz i have a lot of weight to lose, some people dont have that problem it all depends of you what your skin is like and your age...i dont know if the insurance will pay for a tummy tuck that is something you will need to ask them

The band is designed to last the rest of your life so i read but things do happen that may cause them to be removed like slippage or erosion. from what i gather erosion is not supposed to be common but does happen mostly if the band is too tight, if you vomit alot and if it has slipped and you dont do anything about it.

Since i am self pay i asked my ins if for any reason i had problems with my band if they will cover a removal they said yes but not a replacement (since they dont cover lap band anyway)

Hope this has helped you.. keep reading these boards and others before you really decide on the band to make sure you have all the information you need Good luck to you

Thank you for the information. I tried talking to my insurance company but the rep on the phone didn't understand what I was talking about, so I barely got any info out of her. Funny thing is I work for an insurance agency.

What web sites did you use for research?

WOW! 8/26 is around the corner. Good Luck to you!!!

Thanks fagain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
