help!! no support from hubby

Recommended Posts

my surgery is in a few days -the 26th and NOW my husband decides to get weird. His mother asked if was diabetic and I guess that made him think I don't need lap band. I do have hypertension and some sleep apnea and am definately obese. I am doing this for myself, I know that. I guess these people think I should wait until i am 20-30 # pounds heavier and have more health issues. I figure why wait?? He even had the nerve to say I could just excercise/eat less--duh:cursing: By the way I have been married to this dim wit for over 26 yrs. Yes, I am pissed off at him tonite! thanks for the place to vent:smile:

Hey Bandongal...I too am facing this same issue. I just had my first surgeon Appointment on Thursday and the doctor told me I will have my surgery in about 2 months and 3 weeks...have to wait on the six month waiting period for insurance. I too have sleep apnea and hypertension....I was married 27 years and went through a divorce (it took me 3 years to get it finalized). Anyway I am dating someone for the last 3 years and he is totally against it.....I redfuse to let anyone stand in my way..I want this for me and my health!! Good Luck to you and best wishes.....

Nancy

so you know, sometimes when our men are against us becoming healthy, they are actually scared that we won't want them when we are skinny. Cut them a little slack, not a lot, but a little.

I totally understand.

With my husband and I explained to him up front that this decision is ABOUT ME for health reasons and I plainly put, I wanna look good. It has to be about you. I've know of women who lost weight and went from mediocre to GORGEOUS, and they're mean still cheated on them. So it's not about keeping them, it's about living to the fullest potential of YOU. And no I don't advocate being selfish, but as wives and moms sometimes we spend years at becoming "selfless" and I personally had to realized that it's ok to take care of ME.

I wish you well...

You also need to realize that because it is a surgery he is worried, my husband asked me to really think about the risk before I made my final commentment. Got my Date Sept 20. He now supports me fully.

You need to tell him that if he wants you around for another 26 years this is the time to get healthy and lose weight before you develop any other health issues, maybe he is just insecure and doesnt know what will happen to him once you get to your goal and feel really good about yourself for once in a long time...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
