Hi! I'm brand new

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, my name is Bry (long e sound)

I have been researching the lap brand procedure since about a year ago. I always told myself that even though I am obese, i would only consider it as my last resort. I am currently 25 yrs old I weigh over 250 lbs (i still can't come to terms on how much i weigh :smile2: ) but anyhow over the years my PCP and I have been monitoring my weight/diet and my co-morbidities that have creeped up.

I have high bp, was diagnosed w/ sleep apnea a year and a half ago, and my bmi is well over 40. I also have Polycystic Ovarian syndrome which doesn't help making me lose weight any easier. But I've been going to the gym and dieting like no crazy and i am for sure a yo-yo dieter. my weight can go down 20 lbs in one month, then go right back up w/in three months even when i continue the same routine. it kills me and my doctor tried to console me and help, but i finally broke down and mentioned the LAP-BAND®® procedure and she thought it would be a good idea to sit in on a seminar and find a bariatric surgeon.

So i did just that and I am attending a seminar on august 25 and I'm completely nervous. I'm thinking about taking my bf with me, he's completely supportive and understands my struggles.

I've been creeping around this thread for the past few days and i'm completely impressed by everyone here and their success stories. It's nice to know that there are others out there who are experiencing the same thing and aren't embarassed to share their stories.

It's so weird because i guess i've been in denial somewhat for years at how fat i actually am. I'm constantly active, have a great social life, i have a job that is physically demanding but i've never felt the effects of being "fat" til recently. I'm more sluggish and completely body conscious.

but anyhow, I'm ranting now and I am glad I found this site. I'm ready to come to terms with my ordeal and I'm hoping that I can get through the process and hopefully i'm approved after all is said and done and i can begin to be happy again.

Hi Bry and welcome. The best info and personal story I read when making my decision about getting the surgery (banded aug 10) was from Elana at bandster gal.blogspot.com. She also has amazing youtube posts. I strongly recommend reading and watching her story.

All the very best with your decision and your journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
