Here I am almost 4 weeks out and experienced the worst joint pain EVER in my big toe this week, leading up to me seeing my PCP and being told that I was experiencing a Gout attack. I am still unsure if this has anything to do with the lap band surgery or my current diet of mushies, which has been mostly fish and greens for the past 2 weeks.

Has this happened to anyone after having the lap band?

I have family members that get gout and it is extremely painful. Make sure you avoid foods that can fuel the fire. Did she give you any medication for it?

My dad suffers from gout and he's always been told too much Protein fuels it. How you deal with that plus lap band is beyond me but I've often wondered about it. Please keep us updated.

I had my first and I hope last attack of gout a few months ago when I was making and eating chili with Turkey and Beans 2-3 times a day. I have not had either since that episode.......owie!!!! Good luck!

My DH has gout and takes a daily prescribed med to keep the purines (I think that is how it is spelled!) under control. He steers clear of wild game, organ meats and asparagus. His med is called Allopurinol and he takes 300 mg daily. Since being on this med he has had no attacks.

Good luck, from what I see when he has had an attack it is so painful.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
