Am I Kidding Myself?

Recommended Posts

If all stays on track, I should be banded in early October.

I have a wonderful 11 day cruise vacation planned with my sister 1/3/11.

I can't even tell you how much I would like to lose weight prior to our trip.

How possible will this be since I will only be 3 months post-op prior to the trip and only a couple of fills will have occurred?

Is 30 lbs out of the question if I eat as designed and exercise? I am required to do a 10 day pre-op with Carnation Instant Breakfast only. I suspect this may get the ball rolling. I am starting to panic:scared2:

My sister has had bariatric 3 years ago and looks wonderful. I would hate to feel like a fat pig and not enjoy myself due to feeling self conscious and unattractive:crying:

Not at all! I am five months out (Surgery was March 22) and have lost about 47 lbs, so I don't think that it's a crazy goal. Stick to the bandster rules and the weight will come off. It's not as quick sometimes - especially right after surgery but give it a month or two and it will start. My biggest lost so far was between months 4 and 5. I'm finally at good restriction.

I think that is plenty doable if you stick to the rules and exercise.

Thanks for responding gingerjane. I don't really understand why a person doesn't lose alot at first since eating is so restricted with liquids, puree, soft etc. Is it because there have not been any fills and so you eat more? Is it because your body is holding on to fat since it is in starvation mode?

Some people do lose very quickly after surgery as well as during the pre-op diet. The only time I stopped losing was when I wasn't taking in enough calories. I lost 12lbs during the pre-op and post-op for about 2 weeks I was losing about 7lbs a week. That of course slowed down, but that's expected. Everyone's body is different.

I don't think you are kidding yourself at all! You just have to realize that after you get through the pre-op loss and any initial weight loss right after surgery, that it will be up to you! I am following the bandster diet and my one month post-op was on 8/19/10. I am 30 pounds down from my all-time highest when I was at my initial consult. I lost a little on the "supervised diet" portion of the approval process, 16 pounds on the 2 week medifast preop and 10 since the surgery. I can't stress enough that the 10 I've lost since the surgery has really been up to me...no restriction yet. However, I think going through the surgery and seeing the evidence on my tummy everyday (incisions) has a welcomed placebo effect on me . The jury has not been out long enough IMO, but I feel like I'm really changing my habits. I am exercising well, and not thinking about eating all kinds of bad food for much of the day . Good luck to you!

It has been said many times before, EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. Think back to when you were on a diet in the past - when you ate really high quility food, no cheating. How much weight did you loose per week? That should give you an idea of what YOUR body will do. Then of course the more exercise you do the more weight loss. Tell yourself that no matter what you weigh that you will have a wonderful time. Not because of what you think you look like but because you will be with your sister.

Your vacation sounds so fun!!! I am going on a cruise in May and I can't wait!!!

Well 3 months post op I had lost 35lbs and I pretty much didn't exercise at all so if you eat right and exercise I'm sure you'll do even better than that!!!! Good Luck!!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
