Eating is not as enjoyable as it used to be!

Recommended Posts

I have had four fills since being banded and since this last one, I really have restriction now. I can only eat 4-6 oz at a time. Now, eating is more of a chore and not as enjoyable as it used to be. I know we shouldn't emphasize how happy eating used to be, but it definately messes with my mindset now.

Does anyone else feel that way?

Oddly enough I really know the feeling! I eat about a cup of food, sometimes less, and there are times when I'm just like, ugh, have to eat. It's funny how food was my go-to before the band now I have to remind myself to eat!

I know eating and cooking was my passion, I loved to eat a lot and taste things experience new foods cook for my family, I used to drink about a gallon me Water or more each day and now after my second fill I fell a lot of restriction I can't drink to much at a time or eat things that I like, such as sushi grilled chicken toast, I remember that I was happy eating very happy , but miserable being fat, and now I'm still fat and I can't eat... I'm 3 months out and very slowly losing..

YES! I am definitely losing interest in food. It's weird.

But I figure it's time to enjoy some OTHER things in life now. If I squirrel away a tenth of the money I used to waste on fast food binges, I can splurge on a massage once in a while.

And I am really enjoying going to the gym lately. I know, I sound like a total douche, but it's true.

This could be a thread all its own: OTHER things to enjoy in life, other than food.

Part of what I value about the lapband is the decrease in pleasure eating brings. Sometimes it bugs me, but those times are less frequent than they were at first. I've NEVER been able to eat the way normal people do, so this is just a new and more useful way of not being able to eat "normally." I can still eat an occasional piece of coconut cream pie- just not the entire 8" pie!

At times I do feel this way. I just passed my one year and I found the more time goes by the less frustrating it is. Also as you loose more weight you'll probably have less restriction as the band moves around. You should talk to your doc about it and see what she/he suggests! Good Luck Hun!

Yes, I felt that way, sometimes it took so long to eat that I would get bored and quit even though I was still hungry. I decided to stop losing weight and I went yesterday and had some fill removed and I can eat better now. So maybe you would feel better if you looked at it as a temporary condition.

at times yes i feel the same way. now that my eating habits have changed and we are eating healthier i am back in the kitchen cooking. when i was first banded that was the last place i wanted to be but i LOVE cooking and i LOVE looking at new recipes. so now i look for healthier recipes and i fix them. some kinda suck but some are rather yummy!! i have learned to take pleasure in the foods and really savor them. before i don't think i actually tasted them but now that i have to eat slower and chew longer i get the real taste of the food. some foods i have found out i really don't care for anymore and some that i didn't like at all i am craving- Beans. who'd have thunk it??? lol

While I love my band and the lost weight, I find that it causes me stress. I went away for 3 days and was in a panic about eating out and what I was bringing and not wanting to be a pain in the rear to my friends. They are tolerant to a point, but I made this choice.

I know being more aware of the food is the point, but I am going to a BBQ/party tomorrow after having a fill yesterday and am bummed. I have my soft food ready to go, but then I get stuck eating alone so as not to make a big deal and sitting around all the "good stuff" is very tough.

I have found joy in other things:walking, new clothes, no swollen ankles this summer, etc, but I MISS EATING WITH ABANDON......sometimes. I know that abandon got me to 289 lbs. but still at times I miss it!!!!

I miss the nice full feeling after a large meal (but not so large you feel sick). I find it's a little uncomfortable to eat since my last fill. I am not getting sick but feel like I could sometimes. I too am not enjoying eating like I used to. It's both a bleasing and a curse I think.

I was just banded on 8/16 and I'm feeling good so far. I may change my mind as time goes on but as for right now...I'm praying for all the feelings above.

I've had and tasted and indulged in all there is to eat bringing me to this point. I would love to lose interest in food and eat to live instead of living to eat.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
