Pregnant and Losing?

Recommended Posts

I am 7 weeks pregnant and down 10 lbs- anyone have this? I am not trying to loose weight, I just feel sick and don't feel like eating as much. I don't want to be a bad mother!

I had my band 8 months ago- down 64 lbs total.

I had to sign a consent that I would not get pregnant within at least the next year of getting my band b/c it could cause complications. Have you had your band unfilled? I think most docs unfill it during pregnancy so you can eat more.

It is common to loose weight at the beginning of a pregnancy, especially if you have weight to lose. It should even out by your second trimester. You do need to get all of the Fluid taken out of your band though.

Congrats on your pregnancy!!! How exciting..... Well here is my little spill

I am an OB nurse and this is what we look for: Your babies growth and development. We had a girl who never had her band unfilled was still losing weight and her baby was perfectly fine. There should really be a discussion with your OBGYN about how much weight you can safely lose before it could effect your baby. My sister only gained 1lb during her pregnancy and my neice weighed nearly 8lbs. She just lost lost lost weight until the end, but becuase she was considered obese it was ok. Now if you weigh 140 now your Dr may not want you losing much more weight.

Good Luck!

I lost weight my entire pregnancy (im not banded yet) from morning sickness. It happens. You do not NEED to get your band completely unfilled but it would be best to speak to your OBGYN and surgeon about it.

I even spoke to my surgeon when we met about how soon I could consider trying for our second after the surgery. (His exact words) The text book answer is 12 months, but he also said there is normally no problem with a pregnancy after 6 months post op.

i have heard that for your unborn baby one only needs to consume 300 more calories a day and that seems doable without a complete unfill!!

When I got pregnant, my band tightened. It became hard to eat so I had to get a slight unfill. I had 1.5 cc's taken out. I had lost 10 pounds in a month without much morning sickness. It just depends on you and what your surgeon thinks.

My surgeon told me they don't normally do unfills unless there is a problem. I definitely had a problem. Especially since I was already at goal. For me to lose more weight wasn't good.

Now I am on a normal weight gain path with my pregnancy and am still eating healthy.

Just make sure you keep your surgeon and you OB in the loop with everything. They can both be amazingly helpful!

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
