Why am I not losing weight?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Bandsters! I am new to the forum and I am feeling a little discouraged. I had my surgery on July 14th and my first fill on August 10th. I have been experiencing hunger between meals and if I wanted to I could probably eat more that the recommended 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food per meal. I have been working out everyday (cardio i.e running and walking 30 mins and weights) for an hour and I have lost a total of 9 lbs!! I hear other people talking about how they lost 20+ lbs the first few weeks after surgery and I am getting so discouraged. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem? I could really use some encouragement right now! :)

You are doing great! I think you need to eat more with all the workout you are doing. Make sure you are eating high protein/low carbs. If you are feeling hunger less than 4hr between meals I think you need to eat more than 3/4c.

I had my surgery the day after you! Now if you look at my ticker it says 32 pounds lost..well 20 if it was prior to surgery so you need to know if someone says they lost xx pounds was that pre and post surgery or just post??

I lost about 10 pounds the 1st 2 weeks than had a major stall I was eating about 500 -600 calories per day..I bumped it up to 700-800 and I'm losing again. I have a realize band and use their web site to track my food, Fluid, activity, fills and more. I;m taking in 60 grs of Protein per day and drink 2 large 32ox Decaf ice coffees one in between Breakfast and lunch and one between lunch and dinner, that takes the hungry edge off for me. I did have a 3cc fill on Aug 11

Good luck!!

Thanks for the encouragement you guys! I guess that I didn't think of people including their pre-surg weight loss. I will try bumping up my calorie intake. I have just been afraid to do it because of the stall. I go for another fill on the 31st so hopefully that will help with the hungry feeling. I got 1.2cc on my first fill so I am at 3.2cc right now, she originally put in 1.8cc but had to remove .6cc because I couldn't get the sip of Water to go down. I am going to continue with the exercise because it just makes me feel good! :) I have noticed that my clothes are fitting a little more loosely in the waist and thighs and my stomach has gone down some. Just not seeing it on the scale.

Good luck to you all as well! By the way where did you get the weight loss ticker from?

You get them from Graphical Tickers and Trackers: Weight Loss, Trying To Conceive, Pregnancy....

I'm stalled right now too. Well, I actually gained 2 pounds. I started tracking my food intake, and I was only getting between 500 - 600 per day. I have bumped it up to 800-1000 calories, and the 2 pounds have gone away. It is still very frustrating.

That is interesting because that wasn't what I had typed. It is the correct website though.

Even though I have lost 30lbs (and that from what I weighed the day before surgery) it has not been in a straight line at all. Lost 17 lbs very quickly and then stalled and then lost another 11 and stalled for another 10 days and then the last 4 days I have lost about a pound a day. I just think it is a process and there will be definite ups and downs. I do particularly agree with the problem of not eating enough especially when you are exercising quite a bit.

Hang in there. The weight loss will come if you stick to the program. Everyone goes though this differently. Some are able to lose weight early and quickly. Others go through the process more slowly until they reach their optimal fill levels in their band. For me, after 4 months of diet and exercise and getting about 4.5 ccs. in my band I became disenchanted with it all and returned to my old habits. I regained most of the few pounds I had lost. After 16 months a friend and fellow bandster talked me into going back to my surgeon to see what I could do. He told me that I needed more fill in my band to get the benefits from it. Wow! was he right. I'm now at 6 cc's. The difference is amazing. Now, I can't really eat more than about 4 or 5 oz. of food at a meal. And for the first time in memory I have pretty much lost my desire to snack and graze. I even have to be careful about getting my Proteins like the doctor told me, and I am losing weight steadily every week. So once again, hang in there. Use these first few months to learn to chew small bites, eat the right things and get into new habits. Because when you get to a proper level of restriction in your band, things are going to take off for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
