I was banded on Monday 8/16, I was instructed to maintain a clear liquid diet for 1 week. I don't think that I can do it. I'm not hungry and nor do I have an appetite, but I can't sit another day and drink this stuff for 2.5 hours 3 times a day.

I'm thinking of moving on to full liquids (yogurt only) to get my protien in. I honestly don't think it should be a problem because some surgeons only require a liquid diet, they don't say "clear". Further more, all day yesterday, I drank 1 oz every 5 to 10 mins rather than every 15 mins just to cut down the time. I think the only way I'll get my protien in is to mix it in my yogurt.

Let me know what you think.

Do you have a GNC store near you? They carry a ready-to-drink clear Protein called Isopure. One bottle = 40gm of Protein. My doctor's instructions were to have one bottle / day during the clear liquid week post-op. You will see that many of us have different dietary 'rules' for post-op. It is important that you follow your MD's directions. If you don't think you can hold out, please call the office and see if they have suggestions or will give you the go ahead to advance.

Best wishes!

I say do it. I was on Clear Liquids for a week too except i had to drink two oz of liquid everyhour. I finally had enough so I went to a full liquid diet. just take it slow and make sure you can tolerate it, but it shouldnt be a problem.

I would try to stick out, as they are your doctor's orders. But, if you're really having a big problem with it, just call and confirm that you can move onto the next stage; don't just decide for yourself.

I just had my surgery on the 17th and my doc started me on 'full liquids' after the first day. That includes yogurt (no fruit it), pureed cottage cheese, and pureed oatmeal. I'm glad of that because I can't take the pain meds with nothing in my stomach or I get sick.

Good luck with it.

I was banded on Monday as well and have a huge appetite. I was in the hospital from the 16-17th and did nothing but sleep. Maybe that's why I am not hungry I'm still in sleep mode. I was told that I could eat the V8 Soups, check out the link V8 Soups - Healthy V8 Soup Home Page. Anyway have you lost any weight? Have you been able to exercise? I started on the treadmill yesterday and will do 30-40 minutes today. Try the soups and tell me what you think. I would follow doctors orders and not change anything without first consulting with your doctor.

Thanks to everyone for replying. I can drink Water, Soup, Jello and popsicle. Its just mixing this protien with the Water that is driving me crazy. I did mix the protien powder w/ yogurt and did fine. But l'll just have to suck it up and drink it. This time yesterday I had twice as much Protein and felt good, I've been sleep pratically all day and I think its because of the protien. I really want to be a good bandster, so I'll do as the doctor insructed.

Losethemess-I've lost 6 pounds since Monday. I was truly shocked because I was anticipating a gain due to the fluids. I walked the corridor every half hour while in the hospital. In addition, when I got home I was on treadmill every last 20 mins of the hour, I ranged from 2.5 to 3.0. Lastly, I'm not in any pain. From what I've read I was expecting the worst pain ever. When I came from recovery I was asked my pain on a 1 to 10 and I said 0...everyone was very shocked. Which is weird because I don't have a high tolerance. I do have discomfort where my incisions are, but no pain. So don't push yourself if you're in pain.

Thanks, HappyHealthyme2010. The IV explanation makes sense. Try the V8 Soups. I emailed my nutritionist and she said I can eat them. Try them and tell me what you think.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
