I saw my surgeon today, and the reason for the "no bread, Pasta, rice" is because they don't want you to throw up. They are afraid you can't tolerate it. Apparently it has nothing to do with anything else. So wth am I waiting for 5 weeks for to get a fill??? I don't throw up on anything...I can't even tell I had surgery at this point....I get it if I saw my surgeon one week after surgery, but he was on vacation and I didn't see him for 3 weeks and more out...I should have gotten a fill at my visit!! Wasted time and money.

Please understand, I don't mean the surgery was a waste of time and money, I mean the extra trip I have to make to the doctor's office is wasted time and money.

Sorry, feeling a little disillusioned this evening...please don't jump on me tonight...I know how these kind of posts bring out other people's frustration.

You're cool, honey- no one will jump you for expressing frustration. Here's a cyber hug for what it is worth; I'm sure sorry you didn't get your expected fill. My first fill was delayed by vacations and I understand this particular part of bandster hell well. It'll get better, just hang on.

I was told that bread, Pasta and rice and any other starchy or stringy foods like asparagus, celery, some meats like steak and pork. tend to "plug" your stoma once you get your fills to the point that you have the "proper" restriction for 1-3 lbs of weight loss per week and not hungry for 3-4 hrs after eating. It is different for everyone and even on different days. some people can eat that stuff or some version like wheat bread but not white bread, and some cant eat anything even close to it. hardly anyone has a problem during bandster hell.

You didn't say when you were banded. there sure is a ton of conflicting and totally BS information from the Docs and various health care people. I tend not to believe most of it unless there is an overall thread of consensus, AND it makes sense to me.

Well, it's not useless advice for many, really. My doctor recommends against those foods because, with limited stomach "real estate" and the need to meet the requirements for other nutrients, they are unnecessary.

Lots of doctors (mine included) recommend against them even before restriction is achieved--in order to foster weight loss.

Why didn't he give you a fill? (Mine doesn't at the first visit, either, but that's at one week. First fill is at 4 weeks--but I still had that "wasted visit" when he assessed my postoperative status.)

I got the same speech. I had to wait six weeks for my first fill.

I'll have that on the 27th of this month. But the things they told me to avoid I have not touched yet. Hopefully when I have the fill they will be more imformative.:smile2:

My Dr said he was waiting for the band to "settle" in place and let the stitches that he put in my stomach heal before he started filling my band. He thinks it helps keep the band from slipping in the future.

I do understand the frustration to get started, its like "Here is your brand new car! Come back in 6 weeks and we will give you some gas so you can ride in it."

Thank you everyone for the support. I was having a very bad day, and posted my frustration here. I know in my head it isn't a big deal, just a lot of overwhelming pressure building up for me.

LeighAMason, the car anology is very funny. Thank you for that!! Llyra, that was a very thoughtful post...it was very comforting to have that support in my first response. Thank you!! Dman, I had my fill July 26th, so it has only been a little over 3 weeks. Sounds like you are doing great Samatha, keep up the great work and hopefully we will follow in BetsyB's footsteps and have a successful journey~!!

Thanks again all for letting me rant...and giving me support instead of lectures on how the doctor is always right!!! Good luck to everyone!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
