11 days in...finally had that "Bad" day...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone...been reading a lot on the boards here and doing my best to take in everyone elses experiences. I was banded on August 6th and I've been doing pretty well. I made it through the first week of liquids pretty well and managed to lose about 25 lbs in the process.

I moved onto full liquids last Thursday and never knew how much I'd miss creamy Soups...tomato has been my savior. I've been drinking as much Water as possible along with about 40g of Protein in the form of the Isopure drinks. Things had been going pretty smoothly up till today.

Yesterday was my first day back to work and I walk about 1.5 miles to my office in the city, and another 1.5 back to the train. So, I woke up very very sore this morning and stayed that way all day. Plus, sitting up right at my desk all day didn't help matters, and I've been getting some lovely hunger pains as well. I also noticed that the weight loss has pretty much stopped for the last 5 days or so and I gotta say I'm a little disappointed and sad, lol.

So, between the hunger pains, soreness, and slowed weight loss I, for the first time since the surgery, had a pretty crappy day. Just wanted to share and find out if this is par for the course for everyone.

I'm looking forward to my first fill on Sept 8th. Think this will help with the hunger pains and the push forward with more weight loss?

I have always lost weight rapidly for a few days after a fill. Add some more Protein to your diet and you will be less hungry in the day.

You get a lot of walking in just to and from work. Make sure you are getting enough Protein and Water, and try to get up every so often and walk around, even if its to the Water cooler and back.

And don't sweat the slowdown -- happens a lot and next week it might be 2 or 3 pounds and you'll feel better. There are so many factors that impact weight loss and its best to get to the place where you look beyond a day or a week and towards a monthly and your ultimate goal.

You are doing fantastic, and it gets better day by day. Good luck!

For me, it's been very important that I eat a healthy snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon. A Protein shake, some almonds, yogurt, cheese.... Something.

Otherwise, if I let myself get TOO hungry, my judgment becomes impaired and I get mad cravings for JUNK!!!

With a good snack in me, it's much much easier for me to make intelligent choices.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
