Banded and feeling sad?

Recommended Posts

I felt the same way, but the good news is it WILL pass. I dont know what it was, but I am glad you wrote about it so others will know its okay. My sadness lasted about two weeks, and once I was back in my normal routine I was fine, and happy again like I imagined I would be after surgery. I think its a lot of build up before surgery, and anxiety from the whole experience. Good luck!!

Im right there with you. Last night was a bad night but I keep trying to remember things will get better. I hate the quote but love it at the same time " Nothing you want will ever be easy"

I was banded on 7/29. I definitely had the first week emotional roller coaster. I laid awake at night thinking I want this thing out and go back to normal. I know anesthesia has some to do with it. I am now 3 weeks out and doing well. I prayed and had a supportive family and friends. Keep an eye on yourself as several posts have said. If it lasts for more than 3 weeks , talk with your doctor!

I think people don't usually say anything because hey....we are suppose to be happy we were among the ones to be banded and blessed to be banded. I am grateful but I just felt maybe I am the only one not feeling such a great big joy at this time. I do believe it will come but I wanted to be real about what I am going thru. Thanks everyone for your realness!!!!! I know we are all going to make it thru this and share with others they to can come thru the sadness. I too encourage each of you to keep pressing forward and know that something good is coming out of this. Let us take it a day at a time!!!!

I totally have the "post op blues?" I was banded on 8/12. Home from the hospital and a couple days later I was feeling sad. I also had feelings of remorse and doubt. I guess this is normal and will go away but its a scary feeling to doubt something that you were so sure about and worked so hard for. Its very confusing. The "high" is over and still in pain from the surgery. Wanting to eat and feeling so "inexperienced" and "new." How and when do you get past this?

Emma....the best way I can think of is to keep sharing with others how we feel. We need the wisdom of those who have already come thru this. I am right with you and I am keeping you in my prayers as we come thru this together. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!! I am with you sistah. We will come out on the other side.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
