My diet sheet says to start incorporating solid foods on Friday but the doc said I can go ahead now If I'm hungry.

I wanted to start slow so when I got home I had some ham salad. No crackers, no bread. I ate a little of it and I still felt hungry but I also felt a sort of pressure in my chest. I thought maybe something was stuck so I stopped. I feel fine now though. Is the pressure normal?

As I'm only 1 month out (yay!!!) I can only say what I felt... I'm supposed to be on soft foods. I tried some very well soaked quinoa puffs and after 3 teaspoons I had that same feeling (but I still have complete restriction)... I figured I would try it again in a week to see if I could tolerate it any better.

Just go slow and if something doesnt agree with you, try it next week :(

Good luck !

Rach.

Be very careful with cold meats such as ham. if you eat them too quickly or don't chew properly they can cause issues. because they are thin anyway they can be difficult to eat correctly. I have had issues with cold meats a number of times!

I know that if I haven't chewed well enough, that I get that pressure. It hurts, and I guess it is your reminder to chew, chew, and then chew some more.

WOW, congrats on the move to solid foods!! Very jealous :smile2: I'm still in my pureed stage until Tuesday when I can move onto mushy food.

Thanks for the info regarding the chest pressure! That's a good tip to know. Did you get your 1st fill yet? If not, did you get your date scheduled for the fill?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
