SIZE OF BAND..whats the difference?

Recommended Posts

I dont understand the difference in the sizes of the band. I read some people have a 10cc some have a 15 cc, etc. Why do some have larger than others? Also why do some people have different amounts of fills? My surgery is August 27th. Im gonna be asking more questions tomorrow, August 18th @ my Pre Op. I have written down different things to ask but are there certain things i definitely need to ask? I appreciate any comments. Thank You!

I also will be going to my pre-op appt tomorrow. I don't have that many questions but I did ask before the difference. My Dr told me that really it was a preferance and that sometimes that they use the bigger band for men. Or sometimes for really obese women that would need to lose weight like a man would. For instance. I am 28yrs old, 5'2" and weigh 230. I will be getting a 10 cc band. But for another women who was my age and height but weighs 430 she may get a 15cc band.

Good Luck! Keep in touch!:(

We will get to go shopping & I finally will not be ashamed to look at myself in the mirror when trying on clothes. When is your surgery? Good luck to you too. We will have to keep in touch.

Not all stomachs are the same size. Therefore different people get different bands.

My doc usually determines what band someone should have based on what brand they want ie lap band, swedish band etc and then the size of their stomach.

Fills are the same. If you get a big band and then your stomach and area gets smaller you need a bigger fill.

For an idea of what different bands look like, click on my blog. I have posted 4 different bands that are at my docs office.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
