Seeking Guidance

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone-

Looking for an ear- I am pretty sure I may need to get a slight un-fill, but I am looking for some guidance. My band may be too tight. I know last time I talked with my doctor- last November- he mentioned that scar tissue tends to build up around the 2nd year, I am now into year 3. I have not had any weight loss since November, and have actually gained 10 lbs over the past few months. I have been walking for exercise, at least a mile (if not 2) 5 times a week. I also have had really bad heartburn to the point that I have been taking Maalox tabs pretty much daily. I have also had more frequent bouts of regurgitation at night. Waking up with a cough and choking on it. Not only is it gross, but it worries me. And it's not that I'm eating late, If I even have Water, it eventually comes up. Even if I sit up for a half-hour or so before laying down.

Any advice??? HELP!

Tami

It sounds to me that you do need a tiny un-fill. Even if you had scar tissue it still shouldn't make you regurgitate or heart burn. Do you have night coughs as well? If you aren't getting the proper nutrients in you won't lose weight either, you can actually gain weight. I would definately talk to your doctor.

As for your gain, are you journaling your foods that you eat? If not you might want to start. Sometimes you will be suprised at the amount of calories and things you are eating. Also walking is great but you might have to up your exercise a little. Incorporate some weight training into the routine if you can. Maybe a bit more cardio.

Hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon. Keep us posted. Good luck to you.

I am coughing at night and even during the day. It's hard for me to track my calories, considering I have also been pb-ing more and more. I guess I will also hit the treadmill to bring the cardio up, but I will call the doctor and see when he can get me in. Thanks.

Check with your doc and maybe he'll do a barium swallow to see what is going on down there. Your symptoms sound a lot like mine when my pouch was dilated. Mine was an extreme case and I needed my band removed and a new one placed there, so don't delay in getting this checked out. If your pouch is dilated, it could be that a period of being unfilled will help it go back into shape.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
