How Much Saline @ First Fill?

Recommended Posts

I apologize in advance for the redundant thread, but I am curious to compare my first fill experience to others. How much did you receive and what size was your band? I got 2cc's in a 10cc Allergan Band. Got to watch on the fluro machine thingy...it was wild to see the barium sit on top of the band, then flow through. After the fill, my surgeon pointed out that my opening was the same width as the underwire on my bra (which showed up on the xray). You better believe I will be carrying that image with me as I take my first bite of food! I stayed on Clear Liquids yesterday, pureed today, soft tomorrow & regular foods the next day. He used a freezing spray and the whole thing was super quick. Fairly painless, just felt a little pressure and felt the sensation in my chest as the saline went in (which he told me was coming). If was very strange to be standing against that machine with a big 'ole syringe poking out from my stomach (I tried not to look, but caught a glimpse anyway!). All in all, a strange, but easy, quick procedure. Next fill is in 4 weeks and it will not be with fluro. He doesn't see the need to be exposed to the radiation unless there's a reason so he only uses fluro on first fill or if there's an issue going on. I think it will be better laying down next time instead of standing...easier to avert my eyes!:(

I had my first fill of 2.5 cc yesterday. No barium swallow, just a Water test. I was able to lay down but had to hold my legs up in the air (which nearly killed me might I add). It was so simple, one lil prick. The nurse said my port was in a very easily accessible spot. I go back in 2 weeks for another fill. :(

My doctor told me he does 3cc's at 1st visit and then reevaluate when I go in monthly for the follow ups.

My doc starts with 1cc per month. I have a 10cc band and it is about a 1/3 full. I have very good restriction. It amazes me to hear about people who have 7-8cc in a 10cc band. Good Luck!

3 cc's at first fill, 2 cc's at 2nd and .5 at 3rd in a 10 cc band. Mine are done blind (no fluoro, that is) and by drinking a cup of Water.< /p>

I go tomorrow, for what I'm hoping, is my 4th fill!!!

I have a 14cc band. My first fill was 6cc...second fill 0.5cc, and today at the third fill I got 1.5cc...so I'm more than half filled now.

My fills are done laying down, no flouro, numbing shot fist.

Best wishes!

I got 2 cc's in a 10 cc band my first fill. That was last Oct. I have gone back every month since then for a fill and go back this coming Tuesday and should be at 9.5 cc's. I want to be as tight as possible so I stay full the longest, that is my goal. The weight hasn't come off like I wanted it to but I didn't use the band like it should have been so I gained at first and ate what I wanted. I should go for a barium fill to see where I am at. Maybe for my last fill. My surgeon does the Water test. I lay down on the table, he has me hold my legs up, finds the port injects a pain killer, waits a minute and then does the fill. I sit up and drink about a 1/4 of a cup of water and if it stays down I make my next appt for one month out. It's a wonderful process, very quick, painless and easy. Wouldn't want it any other way.

10cc band. First fill was 5ccs, 2nd fill was 2ccs, third fill was .5ccs. No fluro. I'm feeling a little restriction. Hope one more fill will take me to that sweet spot!

It was either 4 or 4.5 cc in an 11 cc band--I don't remember. Over the first 2 fills I got 8.5. Now I think I'm somewhere around 9 cc, though I haven't asked the last couple of times.

My doctor uses fluoro with every fill.

I was banded on 7/14 and today was my first adjustment. The day of the surgery, it was filled at 3cc and today I had another 1cc fill. My PA preferred to start small to be safe. I did the Water test and passed. Quick and easy. Good luck everyone and remember, we can do this!!

Hi girlie, Glad all went well with your 1st fill. Im glad you posted this thread cuz I had been wondering about 1st fills. I get mine on Aug 31st. I spoke to the nurse today & he doesnt use flouro unless something not right. Hope you feel some good restriction. :smile2:

I've had two adjustments at 1cc a pop. Brings me to a total of 5ccs in a 10cc band. Keeping fingers crossed I get proper restriction! We didn't do fluro but I had to drink Water as the Dr. filled with saline until I felt the water slow. Then I had to keep drinking to make sure I could get it down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
