Southern Charm 0 Posted August 17, 2010 When people refer to vomiting, what type of vomiting are you doing? The kind that comes from your stomach below your band i.e. food coming back up through the band? Or the kind when you eat too much or food gets stuck and it comes from your pouch? And can the food that comes back up from your pouch cause band slippage?
BetsyB 9 Posted August 17, 2010 I've never vomited anything that appears to have moved from my pouch to the stomach below; everything is undigested and mucus-y, without any bile or digestive juices. Most of the time when I throw up, it's because of "user error." Either I've taken one bite too many (and that bite comes up), or something is stuck. For the former, it's very gentle, and the latter can be more forceful. According to my doctor, vomiting of this nature really doesn't pose much of a risk for slippage. Frequent, enduring, or very forceful vomiting can be a concern. So, a violent case of gastroenteritis would spur him to prescribe meds to reduce the nausea/vomiting. But he's not at all concerned by the now-and-then stuff bandsters tend to experience.

And can the food that comes back up from your pouch cause band slippage? You won't bring food back up from your stomach through your band. You will only bring the food up that is stuck that hasn't passed through your pouch yet, and slime which is just saliva. If you 'slime' ALOT, yes you can cause slippage. But the every so often of stuff coming up won't hurt you. So if you are in the red zone you really need to have some Fluid taken out. Otherwise I would suggest chewing your food at least 24-30 times and taking a good 20-30 minutes to eat your meal so you don't get stuck. If you have a virus that is causing you to vomit alot, I would highly suggest calling your doctor so that he will prescribe some anti-nausea medication because excessive vomiting could cause slippage. kll724 3,055 Posted August 17, 2010 Actually, my surgeon suggests that if you get then stomach flu, you have all the Fluid removed until the flu is gone. As was said by the op, productive burping(vomiting mucus and the like), is different, and you get no stomach fluid with this pb'ing.
