Help! I'm slipped!

Recommended Posts

I just found out 2 wks ago that my realize band has slipped. Like a previous poster, I knew I was too tight for too long and had excessive vomiting for too long, but it is what it is. I am close to goal (about 10 lbs.). My surgeon took all the fill out and said my only option was surgery. Unfortunately, my out of pocket cost for surgery is unattainable for me right now. The weird thing is, he never mentioned just taking the fill out and seeing how I do. I've read so many posts on here about doing that. I need some guidance, reassurance, etc. Since the unfill, I feel great! I'm able to eat again, not overdoing it, and still feel a little restriction. I haven't vomited in 2 wks! Is it possible that the unfill caused the band to go back into the right position? Am I just being optimistic here? I know the risks of leaving things the way they are, but I just can't afford another surgery right now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I don't know about the realize band, but I know that with Lap Band, my doc told me that slips do sometimes fall back into place. He was afraid I had slipped and he wanted to empty the band for a couple of months to see if it would fall back. I don't know the specifics, I just know what he told me. Good luck, hopefully yours will migrate back into position.

I've just had all my fill removed due to getting my band too tight. The nurse told me to wait 6 weeks to start a new fill. I have a realize band. She said if my band has slipped, emptying it sometimes allows it to go back into place. If it doesn't go back, it will have to be removed. I'm not sure my band has slipped; I'm still "recovering" from my overfill.

What does it mean when the band slips? Where does it go when it slips? Are there some videos that we can watch that explains that.

it's not so much that your band has slipped ...it's that your stomach has come up through the band so that you have more above the band than you should and it causes you to be really tight. I've had two major slips...first one, unfilled and everything dropped back into place (done under fluoroscopy). Slowly refilled band and once I got to any significant restriction I was then completely blocked again. They went in to do a revision surgery. As it turns out my stomach had adhesed to my pancreas. Not sure why...still lots of questions...this just happened on Thursday.

good luck to all

Just like the band experience, slips can vary by person. I didn't know mine slipped. I started gaining weight and could eat more than before with my slip. I thought I needed a fill and my doctor did a barium swallow and to my surprise I had slipped and got totally unfilled. My slip was small and it just expanded the size of the pouch above my band. Had band replaced three months ago and all's well so far. Sometimes slips fix themselves, but mine was stubborn and wouldn't budge.

Best wishes to you.

I love my band!

Sue

We've received one common request over the last year+ from members on LapBandTalk who've undergone or are interested in the Realize® Band procedure: An online community they can call their own.

Wondering if Realize® Band is the right choice for you? Looking for information and community after your Realize Band Surgery? Look no further. You'll find everything you need at RealizeBandSupport.com .

I started LapBandTalk the night I came home from surgery mid July 2003. Following my own Lap-Band® procedure, I was looking for information and community support. I came across a few helpful web sites, but they all lacked a sense of actually belonging to a group of people who share many similarities, struggles and habits.

After years of researching and reaching out to the community, we've been able to build the most comprehensive online resources for all types of Weight Loss Surgeries. Hundreds of thousands of registered members contribute amazing stories and useful information to our pages.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
