I'm looking for help and support. I'm considering a lapband due to health issues and because I want a better quality of life with my family.

I'm worried about the risks of the procedure, how long is recovery, if anyone has experienced anything negative, etc.

Anyone advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I'll jump in here and give you my honest opinion. It was the best decision I've ever made for myself. This time last year, I was depressed about my size and ate more to make myself feel better. I can remember HUGE lunches and 3:00 candy bars every day. I can remember fantasizing about what my dinner would be like and how everything revolved around food.

I had my surgery in March and since then, things have CHANGED and for the better. I no longer HAVE to have foods - it's like I realize that it's fuel for my body versus a way to make myself feel better. I've lost weight, I've lost sizes, and clothes fit better. Am I skinny? No - not yet. But I feel a lot better. I no longer huff and puff walking around the corner. Taking two flights of steps is not a dreaded task. My back, knees and feet don't hurt as much. The recovery time was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I had surgery on a Monday and went back to work on Thursday. (I have a desk job) The worst part in my honest opinion, was the 2 week pre-op diet and the carb detox. But, now - I don't crave carbs NEARLY like I used to. NO WHERE NEAR. So, I swear by it.

I know some people have complications and I think it's all an individual situation. But, go into it with an open mind and make sure you choose a surgeon who has a team to help out. I love my surgeon's office because I literally have him, a nurse practitioner, nutritionist, assistant and more. They encourage me at every visit and this past visit they feel I'm at my sweet spot and are not pushing me to get fills so that I don't eat anything. I really appreciate how they treat me as a person and not as some number or machine.

So, my answer is YES - do it. :cursing::thumbup::) Can I tell you that you won't have pain. No. It doesn't tickle. But, in the end - it was worth it ten fold for me.

And if you ever have any other questions, feel free to message me. I'll answer them openly and honestly.

Ginger

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
