4 days of mush and the scale has gone up :(

Recommended Posts

The Dr.'s office warned me about this but OMG ... it is so not cool. It is kinda hurtful when you are eating 1 cup or less of food at a time and you gain weight . Doesnt seem fair.

When does this madness end and whenn does the scale start going in the opposite direction? HELP !

Just like your doctor said, this is to be expected. You probably aren't too far out from surgery and you should really remember that for the first 6 weeks, your weight will fluctuate. The weight gain is usually only temporary, so it's not much to worry about.

You're healing after a major surgery and weightloss should not be your main goal right now. As hard as it is, you should really focus on healing and giving your body the time it needs. Yes it's nice to see the scale move down, but you can't expect your body to continue to shed weight after something so serious. Give it time. Besides, plenty of things can tip the scale in the opposite direction.

Walk, eat properly, drink your Water, and get your Protein in and the scale will move. If you're on the scale each day, I suggest to only weigh yourself a few times a week, in the morning, naked.

Good luck.

I'm kind of going through the same thing at nearly 3 weeks after surgery. I've pretty much plateaued after losing around 20 lbs pre-op and immediately post-op. It's frustrating to think that I went through all of the anguish just to lose 20 lbs.

However, I was told that after the first fill is when the weight starts coming off (if it's a good fill). I really hope this is the case because I'm getting my first fill Friday! So excited!

Right there with you too! I just started week 3 and on soft foods. I lost 18lbs within the 1st week and half but the scale hasnt moved in a week every since mushies started! Im trying really hard to follow the doctors orders as far as 1/2 cup of soft foods, drinking my Water and walking but Im still very hungry and like you guys feel like I went through all this, paid 15grand and after a week Im simply hardcore dieting:( I get my 1st fill Sept 7th so I have about 3 more weeks to go I am just trying to follow the plan, everyone on here says it gets better and its normal and they have been right about everything else that I asked about so Im trusting they will be about bandster hell too:) HANG IN THERE!

My Dr. warned me also of the possible weight gain. I did not have 2b on a pre-op diet but I lost 12lbs 1st week. I knew that once I started incorporating food again some weight wld come back on. I decided not to weigh myself at home until my next appt on Aug 31st which is when I get my 1st fill. I have also read on here that it can take 3 or 4 fills b4 feeling good restriction. Dont get dissapointed. The weight will eventually start to come off. From the time the swelling goes down after surgery to your 1st fill is considered "bandster hell" cuz you have no restrictions, you get hungry & you dont lose any weight or gain a bit.

Make wise healthy food choices and exercise, drink your 64oz of Water & drink your Protein drinks. I try to stay within 800-1000 calories a day.

Good luck & be patient. Take this time to learn new eating habits & enjoy the journey 1 day at at time.:cursing:

1 more thing. Take measurements of yourself. Even though you might not show a weight loss you will be amazed at how many inches you will lose. You will start to notice your clothes getting looser which is a great feeling. NSV~ Im 4wks post-op today & yesterday I got into a dress that I no longer fit into. :cursing:

I too am on week 3 and started mushies last week but found that the scale is moving slowly but in the right direction. I think its because I think I wasnt getting enough calories on the liquid diet because I hated the shakes and so my body was on strike. Now that I am eating fish, Soups and soft veggies...I eat very little but take in more calories and add a few days at the gym on the treadmill and its working.

Give your body a few days to adjust to the change in diet.

Wow, I had no idea that weight gain was common. I lost 10 lbs the first week and since then have put 1-2 back on even though I am not eating that much! I still am wondering why it is that this happens. I am wondering how a fill will change things because like I said, I am not really eating that much - about 3 cups of food for the entire day.

I was banded on July 30th and only lost 5 pounds since surgery. This past week I have lost 0! It is depressing because I went through all this and not loosing either. I am eating less than 800 calories a day. Go figure?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
