Port protuding

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I was wondering...as you guys are losing your weight, do you find it easier to feel your port? I'm down 33.5 pounds and I notice that my port seems to be a little closer to the surface of my skin. When I lose alot more of my weight, will I be able to see a bump where my port is?

My huband has had a bump from day 1. We call it his baseball.

Mine however, even the Dr has a hard time finding. I think it depends on the person, where the port is and how you lose weight.

Yes-- mine isn't quite visible, but one touch and voila- there it is! The good news is that the doc never has any trouble finding it. I think it would be hard to miss.

I have heard that there is a "low profile" port that you can switch to if it comes to a time when you need/desire less visibility. I think it's a quick outpatient surgery. (maybe even in-office?)

I call my golf ball size lump my "Alien" because it looks like it is ready to burst out. I have an appt Sept 3 to discuss switching to a low profile port....I am having trouble deciding where to put it, though.

Thanks for the info guys! It's not visible yet, but it's really easy to find when pushing on my belly. I guess that IS a good thing since the doctor has no trouble finding it. lol I'll have to look into this low profile port thing for the future! I've never heard of that! Thanks again everyone!

Mine really shows, but its not even golfball sized, its quite small. If I press, I can even feel the tubing.

Its a small price if you ask me, I agonised over it for a while, and the small amount of loose skin but I dont really care any more. Its hardly freakish, I just dont have a model perfect stomach, but its pretty darn good.

thanks jachut. I guess it's going to take some getting used to! LOL It is definitely worth it though. I am definitely not complaining about feeling it due to losing the weight! LOL

I dream about the day my port protrudes. It seems so unlikely at this point...

I'm not at goal yet and my port sticks out. You can see it well on the photos in my blog. Some of the problem is scar tissue present from my last port apparently.

My doc wants to wait a while and then see if he can fix the area and make it not so noticeable.

My friends have seen my stomach and never asked about it so I guess I am safe for now...

Thanks Jilly! It feels wonderful, doesn't it? 38 pounds of my loss were pre-surgery. Today I bagged up more than half of my closet because I never plan to go back to those huge clothes again.

I was just banded 8/16 and I can feel my port quite easily already even though my belly is still swollen.

I guess that will be good when I get my fills so I'm not complaining.

There is a woman on Youtube that has reached goal with her band . She was showing herself in a bikini and you can clearly see her port.

I am pretty sure when I reach goal mine will look like that but since I have passed bikini age it will not bother me one bit as long as it's not painful.

I was wondering about this before surgery as I carry so much of my weight on my hips & but - less on my stomach. My surgeon is really good about these things and had both the regular & low profile port ready in my surgery.

He put in the low profile port and I still cant find it !!! He had real trouble showing me where it was also

You can have it changed later if needed :scared2:

Rach.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
